GoodbyeA Poem by Katy KnightHere is a poem about the end of everything...Tis the end that in nigh, Oh, I’m afraid this is so. I just thought I should say goodbye, Now before we go. And until we meet again, I shall not forget your face. For while I fear this is the end, We will leave in good grace. See in you in another life, brother, We had our good days. I shall not misplace you for another, For in my heart you shall stay. We may not forget this world, Or what we have done. Hush, don’t speak a word, The end has just begun. And all the while we are gone, This earth shall rise anew. And with the coming of the dawn, Shall be a heaven for me and you. But, oh, my dear friend, I must now look away. For I fear I see the end, Coming swiftly our way. Ah, the fire it brings, Blazing in the sky. And while the flames they sing, This world begins to cry. Yet I feel no pain, you see, Nor do I feel at all dead. But alas! The fire is yet to reach me, It is busy stealing others instead. My brother, do not fear, As we can leave in peace. I shall hold you very near, For this life is but a lease. And while the others cower, We shall stand erect and tall. Filled with life’s mighty power, With pride we shall fall. My veins are filled with life, And yours are plentiful too. But oh, we cannot remain, For our goodbyes are overdue. Brother, I shall look above, And the angels will descend. They will take us with their love, And whisper, “This is not the end.” © 2011 Katy Knight |
