A Robed Demon

A haunting childhood memory.

Red like fire,

with eyes all a-glow.

Claiming to be angelic,

was a demon wearing a golden robe.

To the closed eyes of the world,

he represented all that’s good.

But the only ones who knew him,

were the abused during childhood.

The ones he promised heaven,

instead he gave them hell.

Stripping their souls of innocence,

whilst covered in his veil.

He worked their little fingers,

down to the bone.

All the while claiming,

he sat in the high throne.

He ravaged at their flesh,

he crushed their little hearts.

He warped their perceptions,

and tore their lives apart.

He used his “mighty power”,

he beat, broke and bruised.

Brought them to the edge of death,

leaving them violated and abused.

Some could not handle,

the pain inflicted so.

They gave up their lives willingly,

to the demon that they know.

Others suffered at his hand,

over many torturous years.

Until a real angel heard them cry,

stung by all their tears.

The angel carried them away,

to peaceful faraway land.

They are not alone now,

the angel has them by the hand.

It is sad, it is good, but it is sad. Normally not something that I would enjoy reading a second time because of how bubbly I am. The ending on a bright note gives me hope though, that throughout all awful battles. There will be angles whom guide us from the presence of evil into the light. My hopes for you is that you no longer feel like there is this menacing demon in your life, that you have redemption and angles, and the worlds very best. =)

Beautiful ending :). It was dark but I loved it. I feel like this is the way the world unfortunately is. There are always people out there trying to destroy the innocence of others. Great imagery and metaphor throughout the poem.

Children. To my family they are precious and sacred in their innocence, to be protected at all costs. But the reality is that there are far too many who would fit the "demon" description in this world, and it sickens me. It is good to see someone creating a stand against it, it a time where most still choose to be blind. Thank you for this.

If only all families had that view of children, the world would be a happier place and there would be a lot less screwed up adults in the world. Childhood trauma is hard to get past. When I have a family, they will always be my number one, at least now, I know how NOT to be a parent :)

wow, this is a dark side, dark if dark and light just came as the conclusion.

a dark poem... full of emotion and pain... Nothing so profound comes unless one has experienced something like this... so sad and painful, yet the last 6 lines give a sense of resolution and beauty.. again, I'm able to feel every word, see everything as if I'm really there..

It's always sad when someone you trust and who represents a higher power rips your childhood away. You did a wonderful job describing this. The ending is wonderful as well.. the rescue of damaged souls.

Yeah it is, unfortunately for some, the 'power' gets to their heads and they use and abuse it to hurt others. The thing is, even though they "represent" the higher power, it certainly doesn't mean that it's the higher powers fault all this happened. It is like a demon sitting on the throne and judging his angels. Heartless of emotion ,which is Good to be articulated through words. I did not look at the structure,fort eh content was more capturing.
