Chapter 3

Chapter 3

A Chapter by Kane

Now let me start again with how we finished the program. Programming may look like something complicated to everyone who doesn't find it fun, and it is, to them. But to those who find programming and coding fun, programming looks completely different. To someone like me, it looked like a grid full of possibilities and yet frustration. One small mistake, one wrong symbol, and nothing worked. And that's how it went for us a lot of the times. Our attacks always had a time lag because we used different programs, different methods, we wanted to be different. We wanted to be, a revolution. And this would be the big thing we wanted to pull. We were ninety percent done, a virus immune to anti-viruses and viruses themselves, that's what we were programming, and like bacteria, that needed time. Time we did have, but the work was slow and tedious, sometimes requiring of us to sit in front of the computer for 48 hours. We had put in a years worth of work into that, creating four new programming languages so nobody could decode or destroy the virus without destroying the hardware itself. We had sat about a year long on this project, a year where we had a bit of time to play games whilst the virus was getting ready for the next step and we barely got our homework done. Usually Mitch just wrote five different ones for us and so we got out of the danger zone, but we might have been in trouble had Pete not taken over. But we enjoyed the project, the frustration it gave, the joy it made, and the time we spent together. In school we were rarely seen together, and that was my choice. People would get suspicious, maybe even jealous if they saw me, the weird and a*****e loner hanging around with the best, the funniest, the nicest and the richest of the entire school just because we were in one class since our childhood. But unbeknownst to anyone, we were the best friends there could possibly be. We fought, yes, but every friendship has fights, if it didn't we couldn't be friends is what I think. But we fought about ridiculous things, like which girl is cuter or who might be the hottest actress or weird stuff like that. But even if we shouted at each other we ended up always laughing together about ten minutes later. That was how good of friends we were and that was how well we could understand each other. But the moment I finished the last coding, and the moment we all overlooked the virus for any mistakes, checking it's immunity and all, we were happy till nevermore. But we needed to see it in action, so we started planning our target.
"So, who do we target?" Pete asked.
"Some small organization, the bigger it is, the worse it gets for us," Mitch answered
"And why does it get worse?" Luke looked genuinely curious, but everyone from the group knew, that contrary to common belief, Luke was smarter than Mitch. Mitch looked smarter and studied harder because he had an inferiority complex, but Luke was smarter. But that all changed when programming itself was concerned. Tactics though? Luke was smarter than probably the best war generals in the world. He could even question Bismarck and people would see that he had the better tactics, if they knew their stuff. That meant that this stuff was right up his alleyway. So we all got right to our computers after eating some pizza and searched for some of the best targets. After about an hour of searching we had gathered three. We started making a knock out round, seeing which of them met our factors. Pretty far away, and pretty small, relatively unknown etc. We ended up with one organization, a small organization that created small programs for different uses, a group called Asgard. We started up that day, hacking in, leaving recordings and live feeds, the virus itself and then erasing our traces. We did it quickly, and left quickly. Our work was done, and relieved and tired we all slept in Pete's house.
We woke up at six a.m. and ran out of the house to the subway station to get to school, still feeling the euphoria of having finished our project. It was a happy ride, us humming through and through. And we went to school, a completely normal day ahead of us. But the problems started the next week, and we noticed from that point on, in how much deep s**t we got into.
