Save Me

Save Me

A Story by Kane
"

A girl has mysterious powers, and wants to die. A boy, who has the job to kill her, wants her to live. What will happen? Enter the world where a contract determines everything

"
The train stopped in the station. A girl stepped out. She was of average height for her age of 15 years and had dark brown hair that went up to her waist. She walked out of the station and looked at the city that stretched out in front of her. The girl walked past different stands, sometimes looking at a piece of paper she had in her coat pocket. Soon she stood in front of a huge building. It was like an office building, and yet not. The girl brushed off a bit of imaginary dust and walked into the building. She walked straight up to the main counter and said: "Hello, I wish to make a security contract." "Ah yes. Please fill out this form while I look for an empty room and some possible candidates," the receptionist said. The girl filled out the form and waited while the receptionist worked on her computer. After a good minute both were done and the receptionist guided the girl to her room. The receptionist left after seeing the girl having settled comfortably. With the receptionist gone the girl looked around in the room. It was like an interrogation room, just that except for a one way mirror it had an ordinary window. Through the window you could see into the office, and the office was crazy. Creatures in all shapes and sizes were in there. Suddenly, the door opened, and in walked two people. One of them was an elf with eyes that were so light, that they seemed white. The other one was a huge man. He was easily over three meters tall and barely got through the doorway. The elf looked at me and said, quite arrogantly: "Name's Quinten, belong to the elitists, girl. You should be honoured for this chance." The big man was quite different though. He was sort of childish: "Rondo name Rondo! Rondo be very happy when he get job with pretty lady!" The girl was having a hard time choosing one of them. Although Quinten was arrogant, he seemed very good and could think for himself. Rondo was kind but seemed difficult to handle. Just when she was about to reject both, someone else came in. "My oh my, seems like I'm quite late," said the new guy. He had black eyes, really black eyes, not just dark brown. His hair was black as well and he had dark blue headphones around his neck. "Hey Quinten, Rondo, how are you guys doing?" "Quiet Lir, what are you doing here?" "I was called here," the one called Lir started, and then turned to the girl, "could I see your form miss?" The girl gave Lir the form. He took it and read through it. "Quinten, Rondo, get out for a second." "I don't take orders from you," Quinten replied coldly. "Rondo, take Quinten with you. This will take about five minutes.""Rondo understand," Rondo said before grabbing Quinten and walked out of the room.
A few moments of silent ensued only to be broken by Lir: "So, mind showing me what you want to die for?" The girl looked him deep in the eyes for a few seconds, and then took off her coat. under the coat, which covered her from neck to ankle, was a dark green top and black hot pants/short shorts. Her belly was free and that belly caught Lir's eye. It was covered in symbols. He looked at the symbols for a short while but finally said: "So you're it, the archive." Suddenly, the door broke open and Quinten stood in the doorway. "What do you mean, archive? The archive is a freaking rumor! A human legacy doesn't exist!" Lir sighed and awkward silence ensued. But Lir broke it by saying: "Leave Quinten, before I kill you." A dangerous glint was seen in his eye and Quinten ran away, followed by Rondo. Lir stayed silent for a bit but then returned the girl's form and said: "Alright, I accept the contract, but I want a few changes. First, I will only let you die on a special day. Let's say... Wednesday in two weeks. If by then I can't convince you that life is great, I will personally kill you, madame Ellie." "I understand," Ellie replied.

After the contract had been written, signed and stamped by the company to be validated, Lir and Ellie went out to a restaurant to get something to eat. "Alright, this is on me since you will be paying for the contract either way. Let's say it's a celebratory meal," Lir said while they sat at a table. Ellie was actually expecting that he would ask her to pay and not the other way around but she wasn't going to complain. The waitress arrived, they ordered and Lir started a new conversation: "So, have you had an accident yet?" Ellie looked at him questioningly and asked: "Accident?" "Using the archive powers accidentally I mean." "That's just it, I can't use them. They don't work for me." "Ah, so you also misunderstood the archive's power. The archive's power, is the power of knowledge, not the power of control," Lir explained. "And how do you know?" "Because I know," and that was the end of the conversation. Their meals came,it was eaten, and Lir paid for the food. They left the restaurant with Ellie walking in the front only to be abruptly pulled back by Lir. He pushed her behind him just in time, because icicles landed at the spot she stood a few seconds ago. "Hello Freeze," Lir shouted. A chuckling could be heard and someone replied: "Hey there Lir, how have you been doing?" "Life has it's ups and downs, and you?" "Same pretty much, now enough chit chat, hand over the archive," Freeze demanded. "I'm afraid, I can't do that," Lir replied. A second later, icicles appeared above Lir and dropped down, but a barrier of fire melted the icicles and vapor rose. Ellie stared in amazement at the mage match that was held in front of her eyes, Lir using fire and the invisible Freeze using ice. Just when Freeze had dropped more icicles, Lir smirked and sent a fireball upwards. It melted the icicles and water fell. Now, something happened that surprised lots of onlookers. The water froze, and flew after the fireball. Just when it reached the fireball, the icicles turned to the right and an anguished shout could be heard. Then, a man fell out of thin air. But whilst he fell, a slide made of ice appeared. The man stopped at the bottom and smirked. Lir was confused, but then he heard Ellie screech. He whirled around to see Shadow, the founder of the arch rival company of his company, standing next to Ellie with an arm around her. "Well then, it was nice seeing you Lir," Shadow said before shadows (A.N. Yes, I suck at naming people, bit me) enveloped him. Lir ran towards them but couldn't make it in time. He grabbed nothing but shadows. He knelt there, devastated. Freeze started to edge away, but Lir enveloped him in flames and asked, with rage clear in his eyes: "Where. Is. The. Meeting. Spot?" The only thing that could be heard were Freeze's screams of pain and anguish.

In the mid of the night, Ellie was sitting, bound to a chair by ropes. Pointless in her opinion since she wouldn't run away. She would get what she wanted, death. Lir just made her have useless hopes of becoming normal. And she believed in him, although she knew it was impossible. And now here she was, about to be auctioned and the winner would get to kill her. Her kidnapper, who had identified himself as Shadow, stood in front of her and asked: "So, how much do you think we'll get for you?" "Don't know, don't care," Ellie replied. Shadow was baffled: "Hey, hey, we're auctioning your life you know." "Why don't you just kill me already? I want to die you idiot." "That so? Well, you might not die. This is not an auction for who may kill you, but for who may have you. They could use your knowledge against the world." "Still don't care, I'll just infuriate them and make them kill me." "Okay, that seems quite smart actually. Well, the auction starts in ten minutes, get ready," Shadow said, before walking out of the room. "How pointless, I'm bound to a chair you nitwit," Ellie sighed.
Ten minutes later, Shadow came back into the room and pushed Ellie's chair into a different room. They walked into a room filled with computers and screens and a chat message popped up every odd second. "Alright, everyone. The auction for the archive, the only living God's legacy starts now." Bids were shown in the chat messages, but suddenly, the door to the room burst open. Lir walked in and he looked mad. "Alright you a******s, auction's over, get off your screens." "What are you talking about Lir? The auction just began," Shadow replied and then turned back to the cameras, "Please ignore him, I shall take care of him." Shadow jumped towards Lir and avoided a fireball. Lir dropped to the ground when a knife was thrown at him and looked back up, only to see Shadow having disappeared. He looked around, confused, then felt pain from his back to his abdomen. "S**t," was all Lir could say before falling. "My oh my, you have gotten rusty Lir. You used to be able to fight against me for longer," Shadow commented. But then, Ellie's voice rang out: "Why? Why do you try so hard to save me?" "I... saw your.... expression of... fear," Lir brought out while wheezing, "so tell me, do you want to live? Don't say something like you don't deserve to live, everybody does..." Tears welled up in Ellie's eyes. Then, she shouted out clearly: "Save me, Lir!" "Your wish is my command," Lir said, before chanting: "I am the archive, let me be me, let me rule and command, let me create and destroy. I am the archive, awaken myself." A miniature tornado surrounded Lir and when the winds subsided, There stood Lir, his headphones on and a coat black like the night. Shadow recovered from the shock he received when Lir had chanted and laughed: "You're the archive? You'll need a lot more than a coat to prove that." "I don't like your tone, commoner. Still your tongue." And those words made Shadow be quiet. "The section of rule. I also don't like you staring right at me, kneel before a King." Shadow dropped down on his knees and struggled to get up, but he couldn't. Lir walked to Ellie and smiled: "Well, now you know how I understand the archive." He burned the ropes that had bound Ellie to her chair with nothing more than a look. He grabbed Ellie and said to the cameras: "If any of you dare to touch her, I will not hesitate to kill you." And dragged her out of the room.
There they stood, touched by the first rays of sun, on a roof of one of the many skyscrapers. Lir with his headphones, Ellie with Lir's coat hanging to her back. "Hey," Ellie said. Lir looked at her questioningly. "I've always wondered," she continued, "what are you listening to?" "Something," he simply replied. "Come on, let me hear," she said, but Lir refused quickly: "No." But Ellie wouldn't have survived if she weren't stubborn so she grabbed Lir's headphones, the latter only getting out a small: "Hey!", and listened to the song:
And it feels like heaven,
Heaven,
When I kiss the devil,
When I kiss the devil,
And it feels like heaven,
Heaven,
When I kiss the devil,
When I kiss the devil
And just when she was about to sing along, Lir grabbed her head and pushed his lips onto hers. After a long kiss, they both gasped for air and Ellie noticed that Lir had taken his headphones back. "It does feel like heaven when you kiss the devil," Lir commented.

The End.
