Did You?

Did You?

A Chapter by Cae

You never told me to come get my things
They're still at your house
And I'm across the country
The way we left things wasn't lovely, so maybe you just threw out everything that reminded you of me
Did you throw away your bed sheets, they were dark blue
Did you throw away everything that was green
Because you told me once that every time you saw something green you thought of my eyes
But there's a lot of green things in this world, do you still think of me when you see them all
Did you throw away your favorite book
You gave it to me once so I would shut up so you could play your game in peace
I didn't realize the games you were playing were more than just on a computer screen
They left me in pieces
Did you throw out your entire bathroom
I was so sick in there one night because I'd swallowed so many pills and you never even asked if I was okay
Do you ever buy mac n cheese anymore, when you made it you made it too salty and I hated it but I didn't tell you and I ate it anyway
Do you ever buy your favorite shampoo that I used once because I loved the smell of it
Now it makes me sick
Did you throw out the moon and the stars, because they were the only light coming through the window of your tiny bedroom in that old apartment where we made love so loud the neighbors kept banging on the walls to get us to shut up
Did you throw out those walls
I know I threw out mine, I let you in
I shouldn't have

Interesting style. Fabulous purge. Not a poem to like, but one that feels important. Well written.
