Coffee Black

Coffee Black

A Chapter by Cae

The stars are casting reflections on these white bed sheets and I turn to
See an empty space that your body used to fill before you turned into a silhouette
Of who you used to be
I can hear your laughter as you laid next to me one midnight
And we talked about life - But you turned into death and tried to take me too
And I didn't want to die but I let you take me to hell
I let your salted fingers sting my cheeks as you told me you loved me
I bled for you, I burned my bones for you because I thought you needed me
You told me I had pretty eyes, bright as the stars reflecting on my skin
As we lay tangled in white bed sheets and white lies
You told me you'd die for me, but I died for you too soon
I let you're salted words sting my heart and you told me you loved me
I always wondered why you liked your coffee black but I guess it reflected your soul
Every time you touched me it was like fire burning my paper skin
It burned brighter than the stars and I finally saw your black soul, but you called on rain and storms
You clouded who you were
So I let you burn me, I let you cry your salted tears on my burning skin
And I apologized to you
even though I was the burning one
