A Thousand Years

A Thousand Years

This poem has dual meanings, and a lot of symbolism. Hopefully, everyone can figure at least half of the meaning. Enjoy.

A Thousand Years...

I have slept a thousand years,
Dreaming the same nightmares,
I can't wipe away the tears,
Why is it that my heart tears?

No light penetrates the storm,
The clouds offer no rain,
In merciless agony, I mourn,
Unable to forget this pain.

I have slept a thousand years,
Dreaming the same nightmares,
I can't wipe away the tears,
Why is it that my heart tears?

There is no requiem for my lost heart,
No rest for my weary mind,
It seems as if I have been ripped apart,
This place continues to remind.

I have slept a thousand years,
Dreaming all the same nightmares,
I can't wipe away all these tears,
My heart is torn, my soul despairs...

Darfod.

this is really good. I like how you use the word tears in both their meanings next to each other. this again has some really good imagery, rhythm and rhyme and I really enjoyed reading it. good work.

It seems that this person understands they are holding themself in a place that is doing nothing but hurting them, but for reasons of their own, they cant step out of it. It almost seems if they are bound by their own will. I only hope they will find the courage to change their life.
