Write Me Off

Write Me Off

A Poem by Michael Guccione

Whatever helps us, marks time in which to illuminate the self

Staring at the wall until ruin or maybe even seeing thru it

Restless spirit, engaged, estranged and back thru it

helter skelter smoothed over with your mother's little helper

To carry on your way, selected investment and overdue rejection

Stave off ravings, cough, and insanity stares back at me

Happily? No comprende and I don't speak Spanish

I speak DUI with a garnishing of apathy, that I can manage

Music to the ears in a year of silence

Humming a nursery rhyme to remind

Myself that plied for help and was ignored

Myself I think I spied lying naked and war torn

Always retracing the footsteps of my past

And the sizes getting smaller, echoing back across the void to some distant caller

I don't remember life being a circle or this vain or this tough

But its all a hurdle so I guess I'll jump

Nor is it supposed fair, now a walk through thin air

Is all I hope, to find my void on the other side of the hangman's rope
