Made of the Earth and Sky

Made of the Earth and Sky

A Poem by ThePoet
"

A Christmas gift for my parents comparing them and their love to the aforementioned celestial figures.

"

My mother is made of bits and pieces of her mother’s world.

She is shaped from the land she was raised on

and in her veins flow the waters of the earth.

My mother is more powerful than the hurricane,

she is the strength within the tides,

she is what drives mountains to the greatest heights.

My mother exists not on the earth, but as a part of it.

My father is made of iron forged into flesh,

his hands are made of callused armor

and his knees creak with rust.

My father’s bones are made of steel,

his beating heart is crafted from ancient ores.

My father, is stronger than any known metal

because he is made from the cores of dying stars.

My parents are the earth and sky,

their love is a force older than both.

They are only two things in a galaxy

that is capable of swallowing them both whole

but to me,

to a person watching them both in silent awe,

I cannot begin to imagine

anything greater.
