The Mountain Awakens

The Mountain Awakens

A Poem by CRISHAM
"

The Mountain Awakens is a gripping narrative poem that portrays the harrowing experience of a Good Samaritan witnessing the eruption of a deadly volcano as the natural disaster threatens to consume.

"
The earth trembled beneath a fiery sky,
A mountain awoke with a deafening roar,
Molten rivers flowed, and flames soared high,
The air thick with ash, death knocking at the door.
The ground cracked open, eager to consume,
The world held its breath, sensing coming doom.

A figure stood, heart pounding with fear,
Eyes wide at the chaos that swallowed the land,
People cried out, their voices unclear,
Clinging to life, reaching for a hand.
The mountain, a beast, hungry to destroy,
A force of nature, robbing every joy.

He could save the children, huddled in fright,
Or the elders, whose legs could no longer flee,
But time was a thief in the cloak of the night,
And the lava surged closer, as fierce as the sea.
His heart split in two, torn by the choice,
To whom would he answer with a saving voice?

The ground hissed louder, the flames drew near,
He felt the heat pressing against his skin,
Each second a battle against rising fear,
Yet the urge to protect burned deep within.
But as he reached out, the sky turned black,
And the mountain's wrath left no turning back…

Good morning from Spain,
First read of yours and I did enjoy the read and the rhymes.
I really liked this line
"But time was a thief in the cloak of the night,"
I like it because as a metaphor it really stands out... and I love metaphors intentional or not because it makes the reader wonder...
Poems are not always what they seem at first glance ... Quite often there is a far deeper meaning behind the words... of course as I now read back to your authors notes I see that you explained your thoughts in writing this.
I have quite a few poems posted in a variety of structures... You might like Forevermore... It is farther down my list of poems but it is definetly the most read.

I adore metaphors but sadly I find that most of the poems I happen upon do not have them....
