Nightingale ChroniclesA Chapter by Wyrd_of_NightAria Nightingale is left hanging with her mom pondered her request to become a trainer. Life explained on the life of Cinnabar Island.Chapter 2 Something caught my eye in the distance. It was a pod of Lapras, a rare sight. There were many of them, newborns, and oldies, and a few of different colouring. I continued to watch them making sure I didn’t move too much. A mother was tending to her baby, trying to teach it how to dive for food. The baby was small and a light shade of purple. I almost couldn’t tell because the sun was becoming harsher. Although Pokémon of different colour were a rare sight, many people didn’t understand that Shiny Pokémon didn’t come in only one colour. The baby looked over in my direction and seemed to spot me. It’s eyes seemed to widen, and it barked, telling it’s mother about me. The pod looked at me and started to swim away, but something stopped them. They all began to struggle as if caught in a net. Boats began to appear, one on each side entangling the Lapras beyond my beach. They cried, helpless. I swam as fast as I could to the shore and slipped my dress on while climbing towards the gym. I burst through the door. “Everyone come help, there are poachers hurting a pod a Lapras.” Everyone stopped training and turned to look at Blaine. “You heard her lets go. Thomas call Officer Jenny, everyone else round up the fisher man with boats and Aria, show me where it’s happening. Take Arcanine and lead the way.” He whistled sharp and loud and Arcanine came running. I jumped on his back like the games we’d play and bounded out of the gym with my Grandfather on Rapidash right on our heels. Although not far, the Poachers had moved farther out to sea. I pointed “There, those two boats”. Something shot by, a blue streak in my vision. It left a whirl of ice and snow in its wake, as it let out a battle cry. “Articuno.” My grandfather whispered in awe. It was the legendary bird of the Seafoam islands. It descended on the ships letting it’s ice beam encase one of the ships. Par of the net surrounding the Lapras broke of making it easier for them to escape. The ones that did began releasing their own ice beam on the net surrounding their family and friends. Another cry rang out, but it was from behind us. I turned just in time to catch a glimpse of flying fire, no not the sun but a bird made of fire. It swopped down in the same fashion as Articuno, but instead brought heat that melted all the snow and ice Articuno had brought. “And Moltres too? Working together?” My grandfather heeled the sides of Rapidash and followed the excitement by heading towards the docks. “Let’s go Arcanine, we can’t be left behind.” He let out a bark and followed Rapidash. I watched as the two legendary birds spewed fire and ice at the two ships, until the net was completely gone and the ships on fire. The Lapras had disappeared, but in their place were the boats of the gym trainers, sailors, and the police. My grandfather and I watched from the docks as the poachers were rounded up, but something caught my attention. “Grandfather, their fighting.” My voice was barely over a whisper The two birds clashed and set free beams of ice and fire at each other. “No, the last time they fought, they almost destroyed the island. Thankfully Zapdos isn’t here, then we would be doomed for sure.” “They have to be stopped.” My grandfather put out his hand. “And they will, but not by us.” My eyes widened in shook, how he could let them continue to fight was beyond me, but I remained still on Arcanine’s back. “Although there are many troubles and pain in our lives, we must over come them. Stopping them is not something we can do. They will stop soon, they will realise their mistake and they will forget each other for the time being.” He was right. I could see it in the way the fought, it was less furious then before, and none of their attacks had reached the island. Almost as if they had restrained themselves. “Go home Aria, go make sure your mother is ok, I’ll help the others down at the docks, but you know how your mom gets around battles, she’s going to need some comfort in knowing your all right.” I nodded and ran as fast as I could towards the house. Though most people were out side watching the scene, it didn’t make it any easier getting home. I crashed through the door and found my mom sitting in the living room curled up with a blanket over her. When she was young, as my grandfather told it. She had come into the gym to bring lunch for grandpa, but had ended up getting burned by a deflected fire attack. She had never gone in side the gym since. “It’s ok mom I’m here.” I sat next to her and let her hug me. The curtains were closed so barely any light got in. It was quiet, the battle had finished just like my grandfather had predicted. “Do you see what I mean Aria, it’s dangerous. Its unpredictable, especially the things that could happen to you. I can’t have you hurt, and I don’t want you to leave me.” I petted her head in a soothing motion, trying to calm her down. “Life is dangerous, life is unexpected, I can’t hide from the worlds because it’s unpredictable.” She went still, and for a moment I began to panic. “Mom?” “Fine you can go. But only when you’re thirteen. Until then I want you to study and help your grandfather in his gym everyday. Then you can go to Pallet town.” She got up in a flash and walked away to leave me with my thoughts. I could go. I could go and travel the world. It was in three years, but I could wait, I’d already waited ten, I could wait three more. Happiness overwhelmed me and tears began to fall from my eyes. I ran out of the house shouting a thank you to my mother probably already regretting her choice, and ran back to the gym. This had been a very eventful birthday. There was no way in the future that it would be more shocking then this. I didn’t realize how wrong I was. © 2010 Wyrd_of_NightAuthor's Note
