Scars

Scars

A Poem by C.O.B

It all started with a glance behind
The image of a face imprinted onto the back of my mind
A face of beauty that I will never forget
But a face that would cause great pain and regret.
I felt a love while I was at your side
But this you did not feel, a fact you couldn't hide

It all started with waiting, for what seemed like an age
For a chance to take our relationship to the next stage.
We met and laughed and talked with glee
And asked ourselves what we should be.
My question was answered with a simple kiss
filling my soul with unimaginable bliss.

And for a while our lives were intertwined
A belief that we would be together until the end of time.
But there was something small that did not click
And my love for you did not stick.

We were perfect for each other, with our love of art
There must be more than similarities, there must be a connection of heart.

Then after a message of what was to come
I was left with a sleepless night and a heart undone.
The next day I was greeted with an awkward stare
and an awareness of the burden I would have to bear.
I sat and listened as you told me why
As I felt a part of me slowly die.

Your words were pain, I could barely cope
But I couldn't fully accept, I was blinded by hope.
I was left with a wound that would never heal
And a sense of love I would never again feel.
But I was unaware of the power of time
And how once again, all would be sublime.

Then as I walked with a heart crudely stitched
With an echo of pain when I saw she with which
I shared moments of happiness and joy
But friendship was all that was wanted from this boy.
But wounds heal and times pass
And we both accepted out fates at last.

Wounds grow old and disappear
And one can move forward without any fear.
A wounded heart heals and becomes strong
Relationships form and are prolonged
Then you find new love, you get a fresh start
But there will always be that scar on your heart.
