Blood and Milk

Blood and Milk

Blood and Milk

Night time is kind to her.
She's safest in the shadows,
Sleeping the days away,
Shrinking from the light.

She lives in a grey world.
Where blood looks like milk.
And tears are
Shimmering diamond drops.

And she hardly ever remembers
What the world looked like
Before shadow,

Grey-washed over violent hues;
When blood was red,
Coating her hands and face,
As she bawled loudly into cupped palms,
Streaking them pink
With tears that refused to ebb.

Whilst
Sunlight painted a scene of horror
In splashes of garish color
And the mind broke
From having seen and lost too much.

She prefers her grey world.
Where blood looks like milk.

Wow. Shockingly wonderfully written. I can sense the angst-filled rage of what was lost and what must now be endured. If you get a chance and haven't already, check out my poem/song "The Curse From Madame Rouge" and the short story "A Walk in the Sun". Great work here. Kudos.
