Renting

Renting

A Poem by Candace

Send me listings
cheapest leases at the furthest reaches
picture me, dirty feet
shuffling concrete floors
Ramshackle mood's got me
squatting in the doorway
of this shaky peace I've found
Nine beige walls, eight feet high
Not even a tub to drown in
but theres a bed on the ground
and the train tracks lullaby
Send me dreams of a gas range
of a fireplace,
Maybe it's too soon to say
but the wind's outside
and for now it's mine
