Notes to Persephone

Note 21

Draft 1

By: Chase L. Currie

I got a letter today

With your lips

Written in the ink

‘I woke up,

The world went mad

The hellish visions of my nightmares

Hide in the screaming faces

Of those outside my window

They cry for righteous

They live cloaks in hypocrisy

They beg for justice in wick means,

I wished to sleep again,

This a bit longer

Maybe forever

Until the madness of this rotting

Sin it burnt out in glory

Instead of taking the pills,

The flowers smiled

The mountains spoke of winter

The tree giggle in the last dance

Of summer

My feet roamed in

The joke of this hate

My laughter filled the smokey skies

I found in the eyes of babe,

Hope

Joy

All good things to come

Life in those wee little moments

Was worth carrying on

I smiled as I wrote this to you,’

A teardrop

Crashed into the lines

She wrote a letter

But not to me

                I merely found it

                At her hanging feet.
