Note Twenty-six

Draft 2

By: Chase L. Currie

The sun raps on

my window,

a day bathe in

brightness,

ready for me to

come out and play,

i stroll into the

heat,

hummin’ some Blues,

the flowers wave

at me,

a smile blooms

from my lips,

the wind holds

my hand,

we stroll over

to the children playing on the hill,

the light whispers

to me,

                enjoy this moment,

the fright of the clock

lies on the nightstand,

the terror of tomorrow

waits under my bed,

i’ll return to the tomb

of a macabre fancy,

where the Raven dwells,

a black cat sprawls in the shadow,

the foul spider weaves Dark Lies,

the path leads back to -

                as the flowers

dismay at the

                frigid hand of

o’ winter

the tomb,

now I am not there

the tomb holds no will

in the laugh of summer,

where He strides with my footsteps

soon,

                He’ll call me

                from the

                tomb,

and I’ll come running.

i like your style, the short lines, perfect breaks, gives that offbeat rhythm...

i like the imagination in dreams, but the dread of waking up to a reality that is different, scary.

almost like a vampire thrives in the night, but disintegrates in the light. We see him for who he really is.
And the tomb references remind me of a cross between Poe and Dickinson.

Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoy it.
Two sides of the coin. A poem of contrasts. Light and dark. I really enjoyed the light part, especially in the context of the current climate. Live for the moment. Uplifting. The darkness I'll keep on hold.

You are welcome.
Around the middle of this poem is the italicized line "enjoy this moment." In those three words lies a whole school of spiritual philosophy. For this moment is all we are and all we have, a thread that runs through both eastern and western belief systems. Though a series of dark images follows the line, the poem ends on an upbeat note. Good work.
