The Talon Family The Spy of London Part 13

A Chapter by CLCurrie

Gabriel stepped closer to where the screams were coming from with her rifle at the ready when Virgil came out of the thinning smoke. He smiled at her pointing back to the body and said, “She is not dead. I only drank enough to heal.”

For a moment Gabriel didn’t lower her gun never seeing him feed before was a shock at best. It was not what she thought it would be like. In fact, she found it a little hard to hear and couldn’t imagine what it would be like to watch the event. His smile never faded as he eyed the weapon with new red iris beaming from his pale face. “Sorry,” she said letting her rifle drop from him.

“It’s unnerving, I know,” he told her walking pass her over to Crystal.

“You have no idea,” Gabriel told herself following him.

“It’s bad guys,” Crystal said biting back the longing to scream out in agony. “A lot worst then it looks.”

“I doubted that,” Virgil said studying her broken arm and leg. He bent down looking back at Gabriel ordering, “See if the aid-kit is still intact, we might have to knock her out to move her.”

“Right,” Gabriel said dashing back to the van only to hear the cries from Crystal as Virgil reset her bones. She was not happy at the vampire for not giving her any warning about what he was about to do, but it was better for her not to know.

The aid kit was perfect, and Gabriel found the syringe for high powerful painkillers waiting to be used sitting there. It would knock Crystal out for hours. She slowly started to jog back to them trying to think to past the pained scream from her side and the headache from the painkillers sitting on her thoughts. “Dad gets the sick bay way,” she said wishing she didn’t call it the sick bay. It wasn’t on a ship or a starship but Michael like calling the small room in the back of the jet the sick bay, so the name stuck and the fact Michael had watched too much Star Terk was no surprise anymore.

“Been prepping since I got back,” he said. “Also, had informed Paladin of the injuries.”

“Good,” she said handing Virgil the syringe and trying her best not to hold her side. The blue light of her armor has slowly become darker over the night of battle. She hoped she could make it to the jet and hoped this night was almost over. She wasn’t sure she could handle much more of this fight.

“No,” Crystal said, “It will knock me out.”

“That is the plan,” the vampire said.

“But what if they send more assassin?” She asked.

He nodded at the assassin lying on the ground and said, “When I drank some of her blood, I also read her mind, she was the last one they sent.”

                “Are you sure?” Crystal asked.

“Would they lie to her?” Virgil question while Gabriel kept a watch on their surroundings. The smoke had blown away, and there was nothing in the street but their smash up the van.

“Anything?” She asked Alexander looking up trying to find the drone.

“Not a thing,” he said with Gabriel being unable to spot the drone above her head. “Someone did call the police, but Paladin has ordered them to hold off for the moment until you guys get out of there.”

“Why?” She asked watching Crystal being tossed into sleep. “We could use their help.”

“Crystal is on their most wanted list,” Alexander explained. “Paladin doesn’t think they will let her go. She was involved with few of the major terrorist attacks in the city over the last few years.”

“Great,” Gabriel huffed looking dead at Virgil, “We are making deals with a terrorist now.”

“Nothing new I’m afraid,” he said with a grin. “Sometimes you have to get in bed with a demon to get the Devil.”

“I don’t think we should get in bed with either,” she said back. “But what do I know.”

                “Where is our new ride?”

“A minute out,” Alexander said, and Gabriel repeat him to the vampire.

Virgil set the wounded Crystal into the van and climbed in before it pulled away. Gabriel sighed sitting back praying and hoping along with everyone that they made it to the airport this time.

“You think this right?” She asked him.

“Making a deal with her?” He asked not opening his eyes. “If it can help us better understand our enemy then yes.”

“Even if she is our enemy?” Gabriel asked. “The things she did, and she gets to walk away from all of it.”

“Maybe she is looking for redemption.”

“It sounds more like revenge to me,” Gabriel said.

He opened his eyes and led forward a little. “There might be some vengeance in her motives, but this could also be the catalyst for her to change. Would you deny her that?”

“She should have to pay for all those lives she killed.”

“Then so should I,” Virgil told her. “I have killed the countless amount of people in my lifetimes, some good, some bad, but I have done it. Now, I live with that regret daily, but if I never met someone like you then I would have never joined Paladin, never look for a way to repay the world for my sins.”

Gabriel sighed and said, “You might be right. She might be on the path to redemption and God, I hope so, but that doesn’t mean I trust her.”

“And you are right to do so. She must earn your trust.”

“But I’m not going to be there to watch her,” Gabriel said, “that is your job.”

“You don’t think Paladin would do it?”

“I think Acid is looking at the information he can gain from her and not thinking about the cost of it all,” Gabriel said. “You must watch her. Anyone working for Goliath knows how to play the game and work both sides.”

                “Has this happen before?”

“No. We have never had an agent of Goliath turn themselves over,” Gabriel said.

                “Are you sure?” he asked.

“Not now, do you know something?”

“It may not be my place to tell you,” Virgil said.

“Now, you have to tell me.”

“Are sure you wish to know?” He asked.

                “Yes.”

                “Are you sure?”

                “Yes.”

                “Last time, are you sure?”

“I am very sure I want to know who you are talking about,” Gabriel said calmly.

“Then I am the bearer of bad news, my lovely angel,” he said sitting back, “for it was your mother.”

Author's Note

CLCurrie
I’ll try to make this short for the both of us, but I feel, I need to add a little context to my stories on here. All the stories I post on this website are what I call “break stories.” They are either stories I go to when I get stuck in long from novel or stories, I write to explore a world. So, what does this mean? It means I enjoy these stories, but I don’t put everything into them. So, why am I posting them? A fair question and the reason I’m posting my stories on this website is to have fun, to show you my growth but most of all to give you a little taste of the worlds I work in. What does this mean for you? It means you can judge the work as you wish and by all means help me with plot, characters, and building the world, but I ask you to ignore grammar problems as best as you can and the style in which these stories are written. My page on here is my sketchbook and you guys get to see all the rough, nasty parts of my writing.
