The Talon Family The Spy of London Part 3A Chapter by CLCurrie“You know Descartes would have loved to meet you,” Virgil said to Alexander opening the door for him and Gabriel to the war room. “You would have changed so much of his philology.” “Because I’m a talking metal man?” Alexander asked. Virgil laughed a little taking a seat beside Gabriel with Alexander standing behind her. “I’m sure that would have blown his mind, but no, I’m talking about you being able to place your mind or soul into those boring looking robots.” “See dad,” Gabriel said, “I told you, you need to give your bodies more character.” Alexander didn’t say a word to either one of them. “Did you meet Descartes?” Gabriel asked the vampire not sure how old he was in reality. He looked to be somewhere around the age of twenty, but he was far older than twenty. “No, he was a little before my time, love,” he told her. “It would have been cool.” Before Virgil could say a word the door on the side of the room open with a tall black man with golden eyes came walking in. He was long like Raphael with a shaved head and was reading a file on a tablet. He stopped at the other end of the table looking up at them all. He was Theodoric ‘Acid’ Chamrosh the third Knight of Paladin. Knights were like generals in the army, but they all bow down to General Cain, he always sat at the head of the table. The Knights were the ones who give every order in the Division, and they didn’t have to run it by any of the other Knights. Normally, they did like any army would but sometimes, the missions were off the books, and no one knew what kind of mission was about to be given to them now. “I’m glad everyone could make it,” Acid said, and Gabriel couldn’t stop herself from studying the endless number of tattoos all over the man’s arms. They were all different kind of snakes slithering down to his hands, where he could summon them to attack his foes. Most of the magical snakes had a powerful acid in their venom eating armor or bone away in a matter of seconds. It made Acid one of the deadest men on the planet or so, Gabriel had been told. “Hm, I live here,” Virgil remarked. “Why are we here?” Alexander asked making sure everyone ignores the vampire’s statement. Acid didn’t seem to mind the dislike of Alexander question which was right to the point. He worked with Paladin but didn’t too much like the Knights. He would rather talk to Cain to his face, but the General was taking care of something else. He was, after all, running the whole Division. “I want to send all of you on a quick smash and grab,” Acid told them, and he flipped pictures from the tablet to the screens around the room. A woman's face with a nasty scar across her nose to both ends of her face stared back at them. “This is Crystal Haunt, a spy for the Goliath Organization and we need her back at the base.” “Do we know where she is going to be?” Gabriel asked. “Yes, in two days she is going to a play in London,” Acid explained, “and that is where you will garb here.” “I like to see a play, it’s been a while,” Virgil said. “How did you find this out?” Alexander asked knowing it was rare for Goliath to screw up this bad. “We snatch one of their operatives,” he told them, “and made them tells us everything they know, which wasn’t a lot.” Gabriel glanced back at her father, she never knew of any operative being taken alive. Something seems off to her and most of all, both of them. “This doesn’t seem right,” Gabriel said. Paladin and Goliath had been at war for years maybe longer. Where Paladin was trying to protect the world as we know it from people who wanted to take it over or change it. Goliath had a vastly different plan for the world. They believe the evils caused by Capitalism and Imperialism had to be righted and they had to the power to do so. They believe the people of the world couldn’t rule themselves, because we can see how that has worked but if they had a superior ruling class, then the world would be set right. They would spread the wealth of riches courtiers to the poorest while keeping peace under an iron fist. Goliath believed power was all that matter and everyone would bow down to them, once Paladin was out of the way. And their operative had a cult-like belief in the Organization which made all this odd at best. Acid nodded. “I know, but we have to take this led as plausible.” “Do we?” Virgil asked. “Crystal Haunt is a nasty lady and is known for playing games. This would be a perfect trap to fall into. I’m not sure I’m willing to do that.” “I understand it might be a trap,” Acid said, “but that is why I’m sending you three. Look, if the mission seems like it is going sideways then aboard. I’m giving you full permission to do what needs to be done.” “Does Vernon know about this?” Alexander asked. Acid stared at him for a moment. There was something else going on here outside the simple dislike Gabriel’s father had for the Knight. “No,” Acid said. “We all know I have the authority to send anyone on missions.” “You do,” Alexander agreed. “But Crystal has been on the list of targets for years. I would think Vernon would want to know.” “And he will,” Acid said biting back his rage. “You don’t have to go on the mission.” “I know.” “So, if you wish to leave then do so.” “I’m good,” Alexander said. “I like London this time of year.” “Then get moving,” Acid order. “You all are leaving now.” © 2019 CLCurrieAuthor's Note
