The Madness at Koresh Manor Part 10

The Madness at Koresh Manor Part 10

A Chapter by CLCurrie

Cyrus was screaming at Rain while Raphael was still feeling the pull of whatever was behind that door. He would step away from the door only to find himself being pulled back. The more he fought, the more the thing behind it beckon him to join the light. He shook his head, punch his chest, try everything to keep the longing out of his mind, but nothing was working.

Cyrus was tossed in front of the door by another one of Rain’s spell, this time the spell looked like a smoky dead hand. He was climbing to his feet yelling for another to get into the room. The door in which the enter golden room flew open and several men came rushing in. They jumped on Rain as he fought to keep himself or be overcome by the same master of the longing Raphael was feeling. Some of the men pulled Raphael to the groundbreaking him of the spell. He fought to get them off, but it was all too late. The butt of the rifle blackens his world until he woke up again in a cage somewhere a basement.

He rubs his head knowing there was going to be a nasty knot there for a few days. Once the pain let go of his eyes and the fear of brain damage passed he looked around the dark room. Across from him was a beaten Rain balled up on the floor missing his spellbook. He was still breathing which meant he was still alive at least for now.

Raphael glanced around hoping to see Karalius, but she wasn’t anywhere to be found. So, he sat against the iron bars and waited for Rain to wake up. It took far too long for Raphael, but he soon came around rubbing his head and feeling the dry blood on his face.

“One heck of a headache huh?” Raphael said pulling Rain to him.

“You are alive that is good,” Rain said.

“I could say the same about you,” Raphael said.

“Where Karalius?” He asked looking around for her.

“I don’t know, but I’m sure she is safe,” Raphael said. “I told her to get out when she could and come back later. She has also been listening in from our radios.” He pointed to his ear.

“How did you know I only put her body to sleep and not her mind?” Rain asked.

“I didn’t, and I just hope you were still you enough to do something like that,” he said moving against the uncomfortable bars.

“You are still as reckless as always,” he said.

“You one to be talking,” Raphael pointed out. “What were you thinking of coming to this place?”

“I wanted to learn some new spell,” he said. “It’s a part of my job.”

“So, what did you find here?”

“A trap,” Rain said. “This Cyrus is powerful and one of the best healers I have seen.”

                “But?”

“But a child of Chaugnar Faugn has played with his mind,” he said. “The Lesser one has given Cyrus power and made him form this cult. He believes it is god, not knowing this monster will soon kill them all and open the door to the Lost Lands.”

“I am sure that is an explanation for someone, but I have no idea what you are talking about,” Raphael said with a shy grin.

“It is bad, like the end of the world bad,” Rain told him.

“You know how many times a year I deal with the end of the world bad?” Raphael jokey asked. “The other month we fought a demon in New Orleans trying to kill all the youth, so he could take over the world or something.” He shrugged a little. “I can’t really remember his plan and what not, but it was bad.”

“Well, this is wor---” Rain stopped himself and then said, “It might be worst, I don’t know. We should be more worry then we are, you know?”

“Kind of life we live man,” Raphael said with a hard sigh.

“Sure, is a crazy one,” Rain said. “And that stuff about your mother?”

“Let’s say we did but we don’t, yeah?”

“I understand,” Rain nodded. “Family has a way of screwing all of us up.”

                “Sure does.”

“Speaking of family, where are the others?” Rain ask wishing not to move from the pain in his whole body.

“Oh, who knows, off saving the world or something,” Raphael said staring off into the dark. “But they are not here if you are asking.”

                “That is not good.”

“Hey, is the Lesser One behind the door?” Raphael asked. “Is that what I was feeling?”

“Yes.” Rain said, “he is nasty when it comes to the mind.”

                “Can you beat him?”

                “I can,” he said.

                “Why didn’t you before?”

“They got the jump on me,” Rain said. “I knew this place was a cult, but I been to my fair share of cults and they are normally nice.”

“It does not surprise me at all that you are into cults.”

“You can learn a lot of magic from the people of the edge of society,” he said. “How are we going to get out of here or are we just going to wait until they come back to put a bullet in our head?”

Raphael smiled. “I have bulletproof armor under my skin, so I’m good.”

“Why aren’t you using your powers now?” Rain asked.

“Because that might be a foolish thing to do,” Raphael said. “I don’t want to give all my tricks away right off the back.”

“Not to add,” Karalius said stepping out the blackness holding Rain’s spell book and the keys to their cells. “I have the keys.”
