The Talon Family The Assassination of Two Part 6

A Chapter by CLCurrie

Ironblood got up from the ground pushing off the bolts stuck in his chest turning to face Helbis. In one quick move, she dropped the clip from her weapon replaced it with another like she has been doing it for years, mostly because she had and aimed right at his chest again. He glanced over to see the men he was fighting were knocked out on the ground and Gabriel aiming at him as well. He slowly rose his hands telling them both, “Easy now.”

“You were killing these people,” Helbis said, and he looked around the room.

He shrugged a little and said, “They were not great people, so I don’t think I’ll have a problem sleeping tonight.”

“You will be sleeping in a cell tonight,” Gabriel told him kicking herself for using the old cliché.

He cocked his head. “Look, we are both on the same team here.”

“No, we are not,” Gabriel said.

“Right,” he said, “you guys are with Paladin I forgot.”

Gabriel glanced at her sister knowing he shouldn’t know anything about Paladin and yet, he does, but how? “Alright, Gabriel and Helbis,” he said softly shocking them both even more, “I don’t want to fight. We have a mutual friend who would be a little mad at me for that.”

Gabriel cocked an eyebrow as Helbis asked, “Who?”

“Sorry, ladies, can’t say,” he told them.

“You said the Voice, had you under his power?” Helbis asked never lowing her weapon.

“I was foolish enough to think I could take him,” Ironblood said. “I track down a few of his men to this building, and when I got in, he was giving them order over the phone, next thing I knew he was giving me orders.”

                “What orders?” Gabriel asked.

“To kill these men because they let me follow them,” he said.

“You didn’t see him, the Voice?” Helbis asked.

He shook his head. “No.” He moved his head a little as if someone was talking into his ear like there was a radio in that mask. “Look, I would love to get some dinner with you two, it would make my night a lot better,” he said never moving his hands, “but I got work to do, and I feel like you are going to get in my way.” He looked between them both. “Sorry about this,” and before the words were fully out in the room, something slipped from his hand falling to his feet. They both knew what it was and moved to cover their eyes, but the light snapped at them like a fist to their ears and eyes. The flashbang blinded them giving Ironblood more than enough time to get away.

Helbis laid on the floor staring up at the dull white ceiling as everything came rushing back to her. She hated being hit with a flashbang more than jumping into an ice-cold pool during February. The world was spinning like she drank too much even if she hadn’t had a drink tonight at all. Although, she told herself after dealing with a maniac like Ironblood a glass of wine would be nice.

Gabriel rushed to her side making sure she was alright talking into her face, well, more like yelling over her own ringing ears. “You are yelling,” Helbis told her.

“Sorry,” she said sitting beside her. “We should have seen that coming.”

“Should have,” Helbis said looking at the door as the other Paladin team came rushing into the room to make sure the men who they were shooting before were put into custody. The team leader from before came up to with them with a childish smile written on his face and said, “You guys look like you had fun.”

“Not at all,” Gabriel said. “Will you let us know what they said?” She asked nodding at the men being tied up.

“It’s up to the boss, but I’m sure it would be yes.”

“Thank you,” Gabriel said holding her head as a headache set in. “Can you get us a ride home?”

                “Already calling it, huh?”

“Nothing to be found here,” Helbis said.

“We could trace the phone,” the leader said.

“Won’t find anything,” Gabriel told him. “Trust us we played this game before.” She stood reaching down to help her sister. “And I doubted those fools know anything the Voice doesn’t want us to know.”

Helbis stopped herself from falling backward or losing her dinner from a few hours earlier. The world was still spinning like mad. She started for the door as Gabriel slowly did the same. They found a ride back to their penthouse still in gear from the mission, and there was no point in changing because they would have to go back to the base for that and they both just wanted to get home. The doorman at the building in the penthouse didn’t bat an eye at the girls walking in because he was once a Paladin agent as well and seem them come in a lot worst.

“I still hurt,” Helbis said with the elevator door opening to the only door in the hall, their home.

“Me too,” Gabriel said unlocking the door and stepping in shooting her rifle up at a man standing in the room.

Helbis did the same before they both saw it was Kirk Kiker smiling at them. They both lower their guns as Gabriel asked, “What are you doing here?”

“The better question is how did you get in here?” Helbis asked.

“Ah, please, it was easy getting pass your so-called security,” he said.

“What do you want?” Gabriel demanded.

“To help,” he said as they both walked closer to him but not letting their guard down yet. It wasn’t normal for Kirk to show up out of the blue like some shadowy mod boss. “I don’t like the Voice too much.”

“How can you help?” Gabriel asked.

“I have my ways,” he said. “Sorry about the flashbang.”

They shared a stare between the two of them and then shot their weapons back up. “You are Ironblood?” Helbis asked.

“He wishes,” Decker said turning a spoon in a warm cup of tea. Helbis turn on her heels taking aim at him. “Hey let’s play nice.”

“You are Ironblood?” Helbis asked, and he nodded yes.

“We are here to help,” Kirk said. “So, lower the guns ladies, and let’s talk.”
