School Didn't Teach Me

School Didn't Teach Me

A Poem by CK_85
"

A list of things that school didn't teach me.

"

School taught me a lot

I can find the area under any curve between any two x-values

I know that she was asking why he is Romeo and not where he is

I understand the MAIN causes of WWI

And I even found my passion in life: writing and language

But this poem isn’t about the things I learned in school

It’s about the things I didn’t

School never taught me what to do at 2 AM when nobody’s awake when you want to end your own life

School never taught me how to not be a social outcast

School never taught me what to do when your girlfriend tells you that she has been starving herself for a week

School never taught me how to say no to sexual advances

School never taught me how to stand up for my beliefs

School never taught me how to not feel worthless

But I do know that a red blood cell has a lifespan of 180 days

However, school never taught me how to calm a friend in crisis

School never taught me how to talk to the police when you get pulled over

School never taught me what to do when your friend drives you home late at night, shuts off the car in the driveway with the music blaring, looks over to you and states, “this is when we make-out”

They never taught me what to do when I love him

School never taught me what to do when he’s unhappy with his girlfriend

School never taught me what to do when I’ve been longing for his lips against mine for so long

School never taught me how to get over him not liking me because of my sex

School never taught me what I really need in life

School is only a FOUNDATION for life, outside that we need to be strong enough to build upon that as base.
Your poem has a very deep hidden meaning that people fail to understand in reality.
But you have given a very good shape to your feelings through your writing.Congrats!!!!
Keep writing:))

School teaches facts, life and experience teaches the rest. It's up to you on how to make the right choices on the things you listed.

Good poem, thanks for the post.

This is out of my mind!!!!!!! You took the real message and covered it beneath veils of protection, so people can find the hidden meaning. You're right. School didn't teach us this type of stuff.

Your poems are so realistic that almost everybody can relate too and even if you can't relate to it, you always give us a clear visual image in our head when reading

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the input (as well as on "Roses are Dead, Violets are Too".)
