Paper Thin

Paper Thin

A Poem by CJ Battiste

Articulation would be in itself a victory

She smiled as if there were a joke hidden behind her words
Each syllable felt like a hammer driving a nail
I listened, feeling no need to respond
How do you express a feeling completely foreign?
Excited by the new sensations of life that I needed chains to contain my ecstasy
She was beautiful in the way that fire is which burned through my paper thin fabric identity
That smile...
would seduce emperors and frighten children.
