Broken PromisesA Poem by CherryDomestic abuse is never okay, you are worth more than you believe.
I promise it's the last time I hurt you,
I promise it's the last time I swear. I promise it's the last time I hurt you, I can still show you that I care. I only do these things for love I promise I'll be true but my love comes at a price Now tell me, what it's worth to you. I see you cry and feel your pain The tears are streaming down your face I can't feel bad for you though You have to know your place. I put hands on you to show my love I know what you must feel I hurt you just so you know Our love is really real. His words stung me to my soul binding me with fear. Leaving me without hope; I was trapped and that was clear. I promise they don't love you I promise they don't care. I promise they will hurt you Your family isn't there. No you cannot call them No you cannot write No you cannot see them I'll keep you out of sight. Pain is what you know Pain is what you deserve You know you cannot leave me I promise you haven't got the nerve. I tried to leave and fade into the night. Creep, tiptoe, and slip out of sight. Out of the room, down the hall, through the door, I'd be free once and for all. I saw the door to my exit. A few more steps and I'd be free. When suddenly I felt a hand and fear came rushing over me. A sharp pain stabbed into my ribs as I hit the floor My eyes were blurry, freedom was fading. I could not see the door. His anger flooded over me, drenching me in hate. My ears were ringing, the blood was warm I was ready to accept my fate. "I promise I still love you" is what he said to me. With one final kick, I was released Freedom never felt so free.
