When he held my hand

When he held my hand

A Poem by Cherry
"

My son is my reason for everything

"
My newborn held in my arms
I was so afraid
His eyes were wide and deep
I thought I might get lost in them
like bottomless bodies of water,
black with depth.
He seemed so fragile,
One sneeze was sure to blow him away.
I held my breath,
in hopes that a lack of air
would keep him safer in my arms.
I finally let it out in a soft whisper
"Hi baby boy, I'm your mommy and I love you"
His arms were flailing
he wiggled and stretched and pursed his lips
cooing happily in my arms,
the fear was nearly unbearable.
I was getting anxious.
Searching the room for an escape.
I sat up, determined to put him down
when suddenly, his tiny hand
grasped mine with great force
holding it tightly as if he'd never let go.
And then I felt safe.
When he held my hand
Everything made sense and I knew exactly what to do.
Being a mom is a challenge
But every second is worth it with you.

Lovely. I remember that feeling when I had my son, too. Nicely said, dear one.
