Never Forget

Never Forget

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery

I remember and will never forget...
those summer nights in your Oldsmobile with the music so loud we couldn't talk and the wind ripping my breath away. Playing pool and you changing the rules as we went , making it impossible for me to win.
I remember and will never forget...
the laughter and tears, the adventures we shared. You making me so mad I could scream, me making you so mad you DID scream. The day I came to you for advice: I was pregnant and scared- you will never know how much you strengthened and encouraged me just by talking with me.
I remember and will never forget...
that grin of yours that made me want to hug you and smack you at the same time. Your impossible sense of humor and your infuriating stubborness.
I remember and will never forget...
what an amazing person you were. The times I shared with you were some of the best times of my life. You are gone and the world has moved on, but my love for you remains...
I will always remember you. I will never forget you.

Some people we meet pass through our lives like a soft breeze while others leave deep and lasting imprints on our soul that remain forever. I admire that you have revealed so much of yourself emotionally so that the reader is carried along on your sweet memories and then feels the pain of your loss. Yes, the world does move on doesn't it? Yet initially, when you try to move on too, it feels as if you are trying to walk with only one leg. You will never forget him no matter how many years pass and you will always love him. That the beauty of love, it has no boundaries. You're wonderful ability to connect to your reader and make them say: "Yes, I understand, I have felt that way.", is truly admirable. Many people shun poems that are personal and emotional, but not me. I think they are the purest and it has been my experience, the ones people connect to the most. Great job on this, I know it must have been difficult to write.

That felt straight from the heart. I have felt that way about some people I've known in my life. Not many have died though which I am deeply sorry that this person that you cared so much for is gone from your life.
