Confessions

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery

you think you know me so very well

there are no secrets for me to tell

but my dear you don't really know

the girl I was so long ago...

there are some things and we'll both blush

I'll tell them once and then hush-hush!

Listen carefully and you will see

that after all, you don't know me:

when I was a child I stole some candy

didn't get caught so "upped the ante"

I've been to jail about six times

I've had quite a few shady pastimes

It wasn't a boy who gave my first kiss

tell me, dear, did you know this?

I was once tempted by a married man

but an adulterous affair? Not a good plan

My "first time" wasn't by choice

never thought I'd give that a voice

I ran away to another state

had a stranger for a bedmate

I've flashed a crowd just for fun

and lay naked in the sun

there's much more that I could say

but I'll wait another day

So, my dear, is it true?

Am I the girl you thought you knew?

Interesting, how well do we know the person that we have commited our heart and lives to? What secret are being hidden from the light of truth? How much are we lying to ourselves about a past that we want to forget and hide in the deepest corner of our soul? These are some of the questions, that we are forced to review while reading this poem. There are no easy answers to these soul searching questions. Thank you for sharing this poem with us.

Bravo!!! Oooh the stories some of us could tell, if we dare. But who we were isn't necessarily who we are now. We experience, learn, grow... it's an ongoing process I believe.

This was so well written. Very creative and great flow!! I really enjoyed it :)
