Lost Little Girl

Lost Little Girl

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery
"

written to my family, on the day I tried to commit suicide. Ten years ago. BiPolar disorder is dangerous when not treated.

"

Momma, your little girl is lost

and she'll rid herself of sadness at any cost

she hopes you understand that no one is at fault

she just never found the sanctuary she saught

Daddy, your little girl is lost

and she will shed her burden at any cost

although at times you were absent

she doesn't blame you

this is just something she feels desparate to do

Brothers, your big sister is lost

too many times those lines she has crossed

loneliness and heartache have taken over

this time I'm afraid she won't recover

Little sisters, big sister is lost

and she will rid herself of her grief

no matter what the cost

this lost little girl is tired and must sleep

and when she is gone you must not weep

this pain and sadness is too much to bear

her heart is broken beyond repair

it's too cruel a world in which to live

and so her life she will give

Oh, Momma...your little girl is lost

I have walked many paths in my life and have had my battles with mental health issues like dysthymia and have contemplated suicide so I can relate to this poem on many levels. You may have been lost but all who read this poem will be blessed to have found you. Creativity can be cathartic and transformational.

Thank you for your emotional honesty.

It has raised awareness , It has helped somebody , You are respected and your words are treasured.

Little Girl Lost has now been found and the world is a better place!

Carrie, the feelings which you write about in this poem are unfortunately shared by too many people. The sense of helpless and isolation from the rest of the world. Many times, i found myself as a teenager, down in the kitchen with a knife held against my chest. Just wanting to end the pain and suffering of my life. Not sure what stopped me. Its a constant battle not to delve upon these thoughts of my past. Hoping that your poem will help educate a parent or friends of a person that is suicidal.
