CHEATER

CHEATER

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery
"

to a family member... you are headed down the wrong path!

"

oh...

what a tangled web you weave

knitting with half-truths

and outright lies

from unfaithful lips

you spin silken alibis

Hush-Hush words of love

are spoken

as your sacred vows

are broken

Oh...

what a tangled web you weave

embroidering a thin disguise

your betrayal you try to justify

with tales of neglect

and lack of affection

no matter the reason,

it's the wrong direction

Hush-hush words of love

are spoken

as your sacred vows

are broken

you light-heartedly

string lie upon lie

knowing that sooner or later

all your schemes will go awry

for

with this tangled

web you weave

it’s only you

who you deceive

it's yourself

who you will trap

and just like "that"

that silken web

of yours will fall

and you're the one

whose lost it all!

The ones who suffer the most, are the innocent parties in this mess. The spouse and the children. Have seen too much lives hurt this way in my family. Embittering all sides in these entanglement. Hope this family member realizes the mess that they are entering and think twice. Sorry, i know this isn't the review that you were looking for, but adultry affects the entire family.

the most destructive and dangerous product of a cheater's betrayal is usually his guilt that will eventually engulf his overall individuality into the bottommost pit of shame and emptiness. this piece is a perfect admonition to everyone, to keep the promise of fidelity!

And what a wonderfully woven piece of art you have spun here... That is so true, when you begin to deceive others in reality your deceiving yourself and it will come back to bite you like a karma snake.

Talking about my husband are ya? He lies like a rug-but I see right through it. See that you can tell a lie when you hear it as well. Great poem here -venting your feelings-if someone tells the same lie enough, they will believe it themselves but if they tell a lie every time they are stuck in a situation, they can't recall the lie. People are more able to recall the truth because it is engrained in their memory.

I like it. It sounds like me when I found out about my own cheating partner. Their selfishness does bring on it's own form a revenge. Very well written!!

I would remove the comma at the end of this line "no matter the reason," because the rest of the poem doesn't have any punctuation and it feels random. i'd actually be intrigued to hear how you would read it, and where you would place the breaks.

apart from that, i enjoyed the poem. it flowed along greatly, and the images and creation worked well, complimentin he poem itself.

Please, Carrie - tell me it isn't autobiographical about today...

Beautiful presentation, the flow is excellent and the message is amazing.

"betrayal you try to justify

with tales of neglect"-what a truth! and i like :"it's only you

who you deceive

it's yourself"-you have used your free verse nicely to word this painful and cautionary story.
