Refuge

Refuge

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery

Sometimes

my days are hectic -

a hazy,

spinning

dizziness

I am drained

from the hustle & bustle

of crazy- household business

I get used up

and bruised up

from running here and there

sometimes

there’s not even time

to be self-aware

chasing the kids,

chasing the dog,

tending to them all

and in between all of this,

making phone calls

zipping and zapping

thru a long and weary day

until you come home,

smile at me and say:

"how was your day , Dear?

Mine was just fine.

Come , let me hold you,

pretty wife of mine"

Gently you fold me

into your loving arms

and melt the day away

your gentle caresses

are refuge

from my stresses

and if I had my choice

in your arms

is where I’d forever stay.

this is very rough- needs polishing. I can't seem to get the rhythm right. Any suggestions are welcome!!!
