Rain Reminds Me

Rain Reminds Me

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery

The rain...

speaks softly to me

reminding me of our time together

the days, those bitter-sweet days

leading to that one tender, rainy night

I suspected that you loved me

much more than I loved you

your warm hands proved me right

those hands...

with them,

you loved me

like your body longed to

your warm brown eyes

saw me like no one had before

or ever will again

the thunder

rumble-tumbled down

as did the awful realization

of my mistake at being there

and that we could never be

then...

your sinewy arm

bearing my face

my green eyes flashing

my blonde hair flowing

old English letters

claiming "never again"

Ahh...

the rain

a gentle reminder

of an innocent heart

broken and scarred by me

some one asked me what "my face and green eyes flashing...Old English letters,,," means- a tattoo of my face is on this person's arm...

Wow... That was really powerful. I liked how it lead up to the end- it made the poem more effective. And I really liked the lines:
"I suspected that you loved me
much more than I loved you"
That reminds me of a situation I'm in right now so I really connected to it. Thank you so much for sharing this piece- I really liked it.
