Lesson From A Frog

Man prides himself with intelligence
Human Logic rationalizing,
But what he really lacks is Patience
When the moment requires some waiting.

Today a frog in blithe expertise,
Had some short lessons laid in action.
He showed that trying should never cease,
For success comes with repetition.

He jumped on a green stalk,  missing twice.
Then returned to make good his attempt.
Jumped once more,  no defeat in his eyes -
He missed,  but held the end of the hemp.

He climbed one leg up,  still holding on,
His frog face tinged the trace of a smile,
His other arm grasped at victory won -
Sat on top of the leaf in a while!

~yes very true po, we rush to much of everything so that life's goes easy. WHile in the process we tend to forgot things and ends up being a mistake.

Very good lesson to be learned from this frog. How anyone gets a frog to smile for a picture I don't know, but this one is definitely smiling...

My grandfather worked in the Phillipines in the 1930's. He had left the farm at 14 to start his business career and ended up working for the Hemp Institute. As we were growing up and he was retired, he was the most patient man you could ever know, taking time to teach us woodworking or photography or fishing. In your poem I was able to see him standing there watching the frog.

Thank you Sean. I live in the countryside and I wake up to songs of birds at 5 a.m. then look out the window to see butterflies, caterpillars, and frogs. I marvel at the way these creatures live and survive, with only food as their need. At night the fireflies and the crickets provide the night entertainment that's delight to see and hear. One does not need a lot of wealth to enjoy these things.
