The Visitors

The Visitors

A Poem by Carrie Ann Golden
"

They came one night.

"

They came on a moonless night
shedding black rain on us
our bodies
folded and melted
like some block cheese
drip, dripping over a plate
’till only the skeletons
greeted the rising sun

I see modernity's technologies of sapien war. I see the bombing of gernika, tokyo, london, berlin, I see the dark shadow of nagasaki. I see archeology in the folded cheese. I see huge reptiles weeping in that greeting rising sun. History has chilly penetrating winds

This gave me chills. Im not sure what exactly you were writing about but i have the idea that you were talking about the holocaust, and what the germans did to the jews. I am sorry if i offended you in any way in my interpretation, but the lines

our bodies
folded and melted
like some block cheese
drip, dripping over a plate made me think of the holocaust because i think the jews were burned in ovens, but i could be wrong. Again my apologies if what i said offended you. I still enjoyed reading this dark poem!
