Let's be Friends

Let's be Friends

A Chapter by CAira

It was lunch time and everyone was talking about the new teacher they had hired and how they couldn’t stand him. While I couldn’t stop thinking about Naya and how I crushed her, I stepped into the cafeteria looking for her; she was sitting at a table in the back drawing I was about to walk over when a pair of cold small hands covered my eyes,

“Guess who!”

I grabbed her hands and took them off my face, when I turned around to face her she looked disappointed. I honestly didn’t care, and she could tell.

“What’s wrong with you now Danny?” she put her hands on her hips and some of my teammates whistled at her as they passed by with their lunches.

“Nothing,” I lied “I’m just frustrated about the new teacher in my physics class.” I lied again

“Awe my poor baby, I forgot he was your teacher. Thank god he’s not mine” She makes everything about her.

“Yeah, are you going to eat lunch here?” I was hoping she was going somewhere else with her cheer fan club.

“Yeah that’s why I came to find you, to see if you wanted to join us?” She waited for a reply

“Uh, I think I’m gonna go talk with Jake about our game on Friday, is that all right?” If you ask her permission she’s more likely to say yes.

“Sure baby, have fun!” she kissed my lips hard and I could feel them turning red. She walked out of the cafeteria and her fans/friends followed.

I waited until they were completely out, then I looked over at the jock table to make sure that they didn’t see me go over to Naya. They were all laughing at a joke or something. I walked over to Naya’s table where she was deep into her drawing, for a second I was scared to disturb her. The way her hand quickly glided across the paper and her fingers so gracefully pinched the pencil. But I walked over anyway; as soon as she saw me she slammed her book closed and eyed me like I was some kind of foreigner.

“What could you possibly want now?” She sounded annoyed

I sat down in a chair that was across from her,

“Look Naya, I’m really sorry about earlier. I was a complete jerk for what I did and said to you.” she rolled her eyes,

“You think?!”  She stared into my eyes for a while, like she was trying to read me or something.

“So can we at least be friends?” Her eye brows furrowed together as she thought about the question then she said,

“I haven’t had a friend since I moved here. I don’t know if I remember how to be one.” The words she said shocked me, then I remembered she was the laughing stalk of the school.

“Well that’s about to change, Your my new Best friend.” She laughed at the idea, and for a second I didn’t know if being friends was going to be enough for me. But it was definitely better than being nothing; at least I get to be close to her without everyone getting suspicious.

“Whatever Danny, I’ll be your friend. Whatever that is.”

“Good, then come by my house after school so we can hang out”

“Whoa, I barely know you. I’m not going to your house!” She looked serious about it.

“Fine then, how about we go hang at that new arcade down from the park?” She had a look on her face that I couldn’t read but she said,

“Fine, after school I’ll meet you there.” She put her hand out for me to shake it, I did, they were so warm I didn’t want to let go.

“See you there!” She laughed and walked out of the cafeteria. I sat there smiling for a while, I couldn’t figure out what it was about her that made me want to know more.
