The encounter

The encounter

A Chapter by CAira

The hallways were crowded as usual, the sound of squeaking shoes gave me a headache. As soon as I got to my locker Lacey walked up to me with one of her ‘I have an idea’ grins. I started to put my books away when she finally stopped staring at me and started talking.

“So what do you think?” she asked

“About?”

“Danny you’re acting rude and I don’t like it!” I hated how she could boss me around but I couldn’t have my own opinion at the least.

I started to say something when my eyes landed on auburn hair and tan skin, Naya. She was wearing a black hoodie and grey jeans, yet I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her, there was just something about her.

Lacey turned around to see what I was looking at. When she saw my eyes on Naya she immediately snatched my face and said,

“What do you think you’re doing!,” she looked me directly in the eyes, “If you’re thinking about dumping me you better think again, especially for her!” she let go of my face and strutted over to Naya’s locker. She said something that I couldn’t make out, but Naya glanced over at me when she passed with an evil eye. I closed my locker and went to physics class which oddly I had with Naya, but before I could turn the door knob Lacey grabbed my arm,

“Don’t forget about our chat” she quickly kissed me and ran to class.

I walked into the classroom, people were everywhere chatting like this wasn’t school. I scanned the room, in the middle some of my team mates were sitting on the table talking extremely loud, in the front row were the nerds who were the only ones with their books open and all the way in the back with her usual drawing pad out was Naya. I wanted to go over and apologize for Lacey’s attitude; I was walking over when Jake, one of my teammates, called me over. I looked at Naya who was deep into her drawing and then back at Jake who was laughing again. I figured I better go over to the team before they get any ideas.

Lunch was the time to chill and basically do whatever you want, I always sat with the jocks and occasionally me and Lacey went somewhere else to eat. Today I just wasn’t feeling like going anywhere else. I walked over to the lunch line which wasn’t that long, because the food sucked. But I was starving since I hadn’t eaten breakfast. When I got to the front of the line the lunch lady put a scoop of what looked like poop on my plate, an unfamiliar voice came from behind me,

“This lunch sucks” I turned around to find Naya leaning against the glass, she was fiddling with her nails as she said it and when I looked at her she looked up at my face. I hadn’t noticed it before but I was a lot taller than her. Her eyes were so gorgeous, she smirked and I realized I was staring.

“Sorry, I...I... your eyes are just really pretty” I felt like such a nerd.

“Thanks. So, your girlfriend threatened to kill me if she ever caught me with you,”…. She was about to say more but the lunch lady told us to get out of the way.

“Look I’m sorry about her she’s just really protective of our relationship, and she saw me looking at you” her face read no emotion; I couldn’t tell what she was thinking at all.

Instead of asking why I was looking at her she said,

“Whatever, just leave me alone so I don’t get murdered O.K.?” she leaned her head as if waiting for a response.

“Fine.” She walked out of the lunch room then and I walked over to my place at the table, all the while thinking of her eyes.
