River of Blood from the Roses

River of Blood from the Roses

A Poem by C.A. Lucas

A river of blood
Runs through the garden
It brings color to the roses
Blooming near the bank
The green grass is saturated
By the blood as pure
As the white of snow
Blood that will stain the snow
One drop will soak through
Every snowflake and create
Color
Light will have a chance
Light has no chance with darkness
White, too, is an enemy
It confuses light
It bounces it around
Color will allow light
To have a life
And thrive in the world
In the garden
With a river of blood
Flowing for the light

Incredible imagery here, very nicely done.

The meaning is kind of opaque and I think that's my favorite bit. For me, it's about struggle, both within oneself and for a cause. It somehow manages to be timeless and specific at the same time.

No specific criticism per say, but in my personal opinion, I would substitute "garden' for "world" in the forth to last line. But who am I to say it is so? It's entirely up to you.

All in all, excellent write!
