TimeA Poem by C.A. Lucas
She goes down the same old path
The one she's journeyed up and down countless times She expects it to be familiar To recognize her as she recognizes it. But the black, the grim darkness is a whole new realm And the road is changed. She trips, stumbles, and takes wrong turns Too many times she has the sinking feeling She is not were she should be She makes her way through What she hopes is the usual course But when the moon, the only light in the sea of darkness Shines upon unfamiliar trees, Strange animals, and different rocks Her hopes are dashed. The realm of darkness has changed her Oh so familiar path. She is lost. The tears aren't significant even though They sting her face in the bleak cold Her shaky breaths are the only sound she can hear Cut off by the sobs that follow Her heart beats so hard her entire body vibrates, Desperately trying to provide the blood and oxygen That still will not help her find her way home Because her spirit, too, is lost After a period of time that's length is Unknown, and seconds spent panicking, Her despair fades and is replaced with Hatred. Change is what made this repetitive journey So full of detours, so different than the other times. Her world, her home, her oh so familiar path is Changed. Change is her worst enemy She tries tearing out her hair and scraping out her eyes In the hatred that she felt for change. Soon, she comes to an obvious conclusion That she should have seen before. Change would not exist without the help of Time.
