Boken: transfer samurai: Ch. 2: “this is why I am called Boken!

Boken had been attending the Kendra Academy for about two weeks in that time Boken and Rachel started to hang out a little bit more. Kenji wasn’t one to talk about his personal life. He never even mentioned what really happened in Japan. Rachel figured it was a touchy subject. But they would go to the arcade and play DDR. Rachel was always surprised when he danced as well as he did. She never thought of him as a partier. He was always polite and calm. When he first came in two weeks earlier he seemed like the serious type. Though, if he was not the happiest person she would completely understand. He was disowned for dishonoring his family, whatever that meant. She was always in manga but she still was not sure what could dishonor his family enough to put him in danger.

She would often speculate silently, “what could he have done, did he kill a man or did he get caught with a prostitute or did he insult the head of the family. Nah, it was not a prostitute he’s too young.” Then she started to giggle. While they were eating lunch,

“Is something humorous, Miss Carson?”

“Oh it’s nothing Kenji just in my head.”

“I know what that feels like I am constantly in my head thinking what I could have done for him,”

An expression of concern took form upon his face. She was sure of it now he must have done something for a member of the family. He was not quite quiet but never spoke of his life back at Japan. “Miss Carson I heard there is a festival coming soon to celebrate spring,” he stated. “Yeah, I’m still in the process of asking the board if I can do it,” she said while ingesting some a piece of her hot dog. “What do you mean Miss Carson?”

“Oh, I guess I never told you? I am in charge of the special events,” she said joyfully.

“You are the class president then? That is intriguing.”

“What did you think? I was head of the math team or something?” she rhetorically asked.

He looked up as if he was staring in one of those thought bubbles in manga. “Actually… I kind of did,” he said touching his chin with the tip of his index finger. She stared at him in a strange way.

“Did I say something wrong Miss Carson?”

“I just never thought of you as the stereotypical type.”

“I apologize Miss Carson, I did not mean any harm,” said Kenji. “It is all right no harm done,” Rachel giggled.

“You and I are friends now so just call me Rachel or Rach,” she told Kenji.

“In that case Rachel-sama, the kendo team used to call me Boken with one ‘k’.” Boken said.

“So, you want me to call you the same, sounds fair,” Rachel said. “So what did you want to do for the spring festival?” asked Boken.

“Well… I wanted to do something like the cherry blossom festival in japan. The board thinks it might cost too, much.” She said with a look of disappointment.

“I see, maybe I can help,” he pulled out his red iPhone. It had an anime character on the front.  It was a samurai with two cross spears. It was ‘Yukimura Sanada from Sengoku Basara.’ He dialed a number on a touch screen.

“Hello? Kenji is that you?” said a man that has been well aged.

“Father I know I should not be speaking with you but I need a favor,” Said Boken. “Of course you are my boy and while we are the subject why do you not call more often Kenji.”

“Sorry father, I am sitting right next to your biggest fan.” “You must be speaking of Rachel Aimee Carson. She is not only a big fan but the head of my fan club.” Rachel grew red with awe.

Her favorite writer and illustrator knew exactly who she was. “Can you send enough money to pay for a festival?” Of course I can, I will send a check over to Roin your care taker.”

“Thank you father,” said Boken. Boken hung up the phone. “It is done Rachel I shall get this sooner than later I hope.” Rachel jumped into him. It threw him off balance, “thanks a bunch Boken that is the nicest thing anyone has done for me.” She kissed Boken on the cheek. He felt her bosom pressing against his chest. He felt strange when this came to pass. His face grew hot this was a strange but familiar feeling.

Boken flashed back to a young girl with light blue hair. She was petit and wore a blue kimono. She bore two swords which she always carried with her. This girl tipped her head and smiled. “Ryoko…” Rachel heard him say this under his breath; she also noticed a tear came from his right eye. Rachel got off him as quickly as possible. “Are you okay Boken, I didn’t mean… I just got too excited forgive me.”

“What are you apologizing for? I am fine.”

She wanted to ask something but was scared to ask, this much was obvious. “Who is…Ryoko, Boken?”

“She was a person I cared a lot about but is now in a better place.”

“Thanks for being honest I will go now.”

The rest of the day went pretty quick but Rachel hadn’t said a word since breakfast. Rachel also ate alone at lunch when she would normally eat it with Boken. He was concerned so he found Veronica, “Miss Montgomery are you and Rachel friends?” asked Boken. “Yeah of course we are, I am the class treasurer after all.”

“Would it be too forward of me to ask where she lives?”

“It might be, but she is totally crushing over you. So I will let you know. Just don’t tell her I told you.” Veronica handed him an address.

“This is in the…” he was interrupted “…ghetto,” Veronica finished.

“It is all right for you to go see her. She thinks very fondly of you Boken so try not to hurt her okay.”

Rachel was walking the streets to make to her apartment.  She lives in the ghetto; the streets are dirty and filled with low lives. There were many homeless people and gang members messing with them. She lived in a dilapidated apartment. The windows were boarded up and graffiti on the walls.

As she headed for this apartment five gang members knocked her  on the floor. This same gangster pushed her against the wall knocking the air out of her. Two of the gangsters held her up against a wall. Hey sweet heart, sorry but were going to have our way with you, she cried out but the lead gangster slapped her so hard it busted her lip. Her lip was throbbing from the pain. she could taste the blood. it tasted like a copper coin.

“I don’t know what it is but a girl in glasses just drives me crazy. Make sure the glasses stay on. The lead gangster pulled out a switchblade. He cut each of the buttons until her shirt was open. He began fondling her right breast. “Nice you are a ‘D’ I’ll have some fun with you. He tore off her long skirt where her lags were splayed. They spread her legs and the fear started to set in as felt on her front side. “Please stop this!” she cried. He slapped her again, “look here you stupid w***e, you’re going to take what’s coming to you.” He held the knife to her throat.

“Hey! Step away from her or pay the consequences. They looked towards his direction. “Who the hell are you school boy,” said the lead gangster. The others dropped her, She curled up and started to cry. “I am Boken, leave here and I will not have to hurt you,”  “Bokken like a wood sword.”

the other gangsters started to laugh at him. He was holding the same object covered in a cloth with him but this time it was different. A green aura covered Boken. The bandage flew off almost by it self.. He had a Bokken or a wood katana. He rested the sword on his shoulder he began to tap it on his shoulder. Boken began to charge at the far left gangster. He kicked him with the sole of his foot knocking him out instantly. The other three surrounded him getting ready to attack him. He jabbed the one in front of him in the stomach knocking him out. One of the gangsters grabbed a led pipe and tried to hit him with a vertical swing. Boken side stepped to doge the blow using the hilt knocking the gangster out. Rachel was watching the fight she felt as if one of her manga were coming alive. The gangster (to the right of the leader) ran.

The lead gangster pulled out a hand gun and pointed it at Boken. Boken turned around to face the remaining gangster. The strange thing is Boken had no fear. He pulled the trigger and Boken blocked the bullet. The aura began to glow a bright green. Boken raised his sword above his head like in kendo. “I am about to answer your fellow gangsters question. This is why I am called Boken!” a giant green shockwave stuck the gangster knocking him in the next building. The last thing the gangster saw before he became unconscious  out he saw glowing green leaves. his vision faded soon afterwards.
