The airplane trip took three hours and as I sat there I saw a face. I thought I recognized it but I just tried to ignore it.
I gave up ignoring it with one hour to spare. I leaned over and tapped her shoulder.
"Excuse me ma'am." I struggled to find the right words. The woman turned around. She had a very slender figure and her face was nearly perfect except for something at the end of her left eyebrow. Her hair was chocolate brown with blonde highlights.
"Yes." Her lips moved as if she had practiced this conversation before. Her lips had gemini lipstick and her nose was flat all the way down except for the tip, which stood out all alone. She also had neatly trimmed thin eyebrows except at the end of her left eyebrow.
"I don't mean to bother you but do I know you? You also seem oddly familiar." It was odd because I could swear I'd seen her before. Could she be someone from my past? Maybe she could give me some answers.
"Well it' s probably from me being on science weekly. I'm Dr. Krona, you probably read my article on enhanced human strength."
"Oh, of course I remember that article. Thank you for clearing that up." I was lying, of course, the weird thing was that I never read science magazines and I'd never seen any pictures of her.
"Oh, by the way, what's your name?" She asked cracking a smile.
"Curtis Grant."
"Oh, you're the newest addition at SanRaven Academy."
How did she know that? Was she psychic or something?
"Yeah, how did you...?"
"Oh, my apologies, I'm the science department head. I'm returning from spring break." That explained a lot. She knew all new students coming in and out. Just then I remembered an article I read a while back. It dealt with an experiment escaping.
"Oh, I think I remember, wasn't there an article about one of your experiments escaping?"
"Yes, there was that." She looked very worried about something.
"Excuse me one moment." She got up and started walking to the bathroom. There was a sharp pain in the side of my hand. When I examined the wound I thought it was a papercut. She must've accidentlally cut me with something but it didn't feel like paper, but the weird part was that it burned a lot. I sat for the rest of the plane ride in silence and half-asleep. I could feel a pair of eyes drilling into the back of my head. I felt like I was being watched. I slipped into a deep, deep sleep.
...
I was in the lab again but this time it was not dark and there was no pain. There was something different though, there was a shadowy figure standing over me, there was too much light around me to see any defining features. I thought I saw one facial feature but I couldn't tell in the light.
There was a sharp pain and I saw a cylinder being pushed into my arm, it was too bright to tell but I guess it was a syringe.
Again a sharp pain shot out of my chest and then flashes of something making it's way towards me. It looked like nothing I had seen before. It had huge teeth, an elongated snout-beak-looking-thing, two claw-like arms and a huge tail that resembled a kitchen knife at the end.
There was a roar... then black.
...
I woke up afraid that the thing in my dream had gotten onto the plane.
There was a crackle on the intercom as the pilot prepared to speak.
"Attention passengers, we are beginning our descent, please fasten your seatbelts." I strapped myself in and prepared to land. I looked over at the doctor but she was gone. She must still be in the bathroom. I still had a feeling that someone on that plane was watching me.
In the back of the plane a brunette woman with blonde streaks in her hair was speaking rapidly into a cell phone.
...
I walked out of customs and into the waiting area where there were a lot of men in suits holding up signs. To me they looked like very lucky hobos because they looked dirty but wore clean suits.
There sure were a lot of people with limosines. There were a variety of names on the cards. I recognized the one with my last name on it and walked over.
"You want I should help you with these bags?" the man asked.
"Sure." I said, aware of a sense that I was being watched again so I quickly moved towards the entrance yet it felt like the eyes were following me.
I made it outside to see a super-fancy limo parked in front of me.
"Welcome to Swizzerland, sir." the driver exclaimed. He sounded like he said this to everyone, it was no surprise that he did because that was part of the job. I always hated limos, they make me feel out of place. Even though my parents were wealthy. I didn't like flashing money around. This was my only form of transportation so I accepted it grudgingly.
The door opened and a woman in blue was revealed.
"Come, Curtis, sit." I accepted the gesture and slid in next to her.
The inside of the limo was what I expected, huge and expensive.
"Impressed?" She asked with a plaster smile.
"I hate limos." The smile faded.
"Well I'm sorry to hear that, this is top-of-the-line too. So you don't like anything about it?" I could tell she was confused.
"There are only two things in a limo that would impress me. A ps3 and lots of chips." I've always had a thing for chips, but not just any, I would not eat any other kind of chip except for cheese flavored. I've always loved cheese though, it's kinda like the god of foods though.
"Oh, you're different from any wealthy child I've seen. Don't you take after you're parents?"
"I'm adopted." I retorted.
"Oh. I apologise Curtis. I did not know."
"No problem. I don't even remember anything, so I'm not sure how I feel.
"Anyways my name is Carol Banette and I am the headmaster at SanRaven. I'm positive you will enjoy our academy. All of our students are friendly. We also have the best teachers in the world. I am sure you will fit in with the other children just fine."
"I'm not so sure. I hate flashiness. I don't like it."
"Of course. I'll note you're adoption down in the paperwork, then."
"Aah, here we are." We pulled up to a castle-like building with smaller buildings in the back, the sign looked so old it looked like it was about to fall off it's hinges.
"Curtis, welcome to SanRaven Academy."
