My future

My future

A Poem by Nelson B. Stark

I'm nowhere near the man I want to be.
I'm not even close to who I want to be.
I want to be real,
And true,
And genuine,
and different.
Yet more than that, I want to be somebody,
Be anything more than what I am now.
I want to be remembered,
To be heralded and celebrated for who I am,
For the man I become.
And eventually, I want more than that.
I want to be somebody's somebody,
But I'd settle for being anything more than I am now.
I'd settle for being more than nobody's nothing,
I'd settle for being somebody's something.
