The Hardest Part

The Hardest Part

A Poem by Nelson B. Stark

The hardest part of life,

Is loving when you aren't loved back.

Though this experience I do not lack,

I would not take it back.

For you made me who I am today,

And without you my life is one of utter dismay.

Even when you did not feel the same,

On me you can blame,

The hardships and the struggles.

The fights, even the walking through puddles.

The rains and the storms,

The deaths and the mourns,

But if you are willing,

To put all of that aside,

And to lay down your pride,

I promise I can transform,

Into that guy who swept you off your feet.

Who can stop your breath from the second you meet,

Who calls you his everything,

But just wants to be your anything.

I could be the guy who you had at hello,

The one who loves you even though,

You don't feel the same.

But through all of this,

I've noticed that the easiest part of life,

Is loving someone,

When that someone is you.
