Chpt. 9A Chapter by Broken Hearted Faux“Lizzy…” I whimper, and try to get free of my shackles. Glancing around, I notice the sound of a gun shot. There’s Lizzy’s voice, followed by another woman’s. I fight frantically against my shackles, tugging and screaming. Whimpering, I fall to my knees and cry. This is what is left of Gemini Ron Scar? The deadliest Nazi in the fight against Jews? The one who witnessed Atlantis go under? The one who gave that first shot to the child to start that war? The one who laughed as his men were slaughtered in World War 1? The brave Jap who helped bomb Pearl Harbor? I’ve lived a thousand lives with a thousand names. And yet this one tames me? Leaves me vulnerable? My tears stop as I rise and stare up at the shackles. Turning upside down, I kick off the wall and hear the metal bend. The shackles dig into my wrists, but that is the least of my worries. Bounding off the wall, the metal groans before warping and breaking off. “Yes!” I cry. “Gemini!” Lizzy grabs me in a hug, and behind her is a taller woman. “Mali.” I squeeze her to me. “God, how did you find me?” “When Brenden told us about the casino, I took it into a hint that this is where you’d be.” She smiles big, tears in her eyes. “God, I thought I lost you.” “Fox, we got company.” The woman speaks up. “Which angle, Shame?” Lizzy looks at her. “Left side, fifty-five degrees.” She replies, cocking her guns. Lizzy takes my face. “Hey, can you shoot?” I smirk. “Why give me a gun, when you both will nail them all?” “Because Shamus is wounded.” She hints at Shame. “Maybe she should take a break?” Shame snorts. “I’ll take a break when I’m dead.” “Which should be soon if yer not careful.” Lin warns. I grab the gun from Alisa’s waist, causing her to bump forward, catching me in a brisk kiss. “Concentrate, Fox.” She smiles against my lips. “Gods I’ve missed you.” Shame already begins the shooting and groans and grunts are heard down the corridor. “It’s only been a few hours.” I tease as I take sight to a man. But he goes down before I pull the trigger. Glaring over my shoulder at Liz, she winks at me.
(Alisa) Sure, I told Lin to take a gun, but do I expect her to use it? No. She’s going to get herself killed. “Get down, Lin.” I command. But during my command, Shame cries out. Ice prickles my skin, and I watch my master collapse on to the ground. “Shame!” I collect her in my arms, while firing. “Lin! Guard!” Lin nods and guards me, shooting the best she can. I throw magazines on the floor next to her feet. Looking down at Shame, I pat her cheek. “Hey. Don’t you dare close those eyes.” “I’m too exhausted.” She groans. “Too…exhausted.” Lin hisses above me, and the shooting stops. I peek up at her to see that her arm is exposed, the robotic pieces are showing. “Damn.” She wipes at her mouth. “Pryors isn’t gunna be happy.” “It’ll be fine.” I assure, and return back to Shamus. “Is she alright?” Lin kneels down. I watch Shame’s chest rise slowly, her breathing is ragged. “I’m not sure. Watch her. I’m going to dial Pryors.” I speed dial Pryors and listen after a few rings. “Pryors.” He answers. “Shame is down. Get your men down here we-” “Lizzy…” Lin calls. “Not now, Lin.” I growl. “We need m-” “Lizzy.” She calls again. “What Lin?” I snap, looking at her. “Can’t you see I’m busy?” Lindsay lowers her head. “Shame’s gone.” I look down at Shame’s body. She no longer breathes. I collapse to my knees and scream. “Get yer a*s down here, Pryors.” Shutting the phone, I try to perform CPR, but after twenty minutes, I give up. Crying into Shame’s neck, I let all guard down. “Liz?” Lin whimpers. I look up to see her face. It’s tear streaked as well. “Aw, Lin, c’mere.” I take her into my arms. “Why are you crying?” She giggles. I stroke her hair. “Shame was like a mother to me.” “Did she take you in this life?” She sniffles. “Yeah.” I nod and rock her. I hum a lullaby, using my bloody fingers to close Shame’s eyes. Lin curls into a ball on my lap, and buries her face in my stomach before falling asleep. Pryor’s men move in and find us; I carry Lin with me in my arms. They cover up Shamus and move out. © 2011 Broken Hearted FauxAuthor's Note
