A Chapter by Broken Hearted Faux

“Alisa.” Lindsay moans in her sleep and shoves me off the bed.

My face smacks the wood floor, waking me completely up. The arm I bandaged with my sheet and my stomach are fully stitched up.

“Lizzy?” Lin glances over the bed and yawns. “Why you on the floor?”

“Gee, I wonder.” I roll my eyes.

“Well it’s cold up here.” She frowns. “Come back and heat it up.”

I pick myself up and join her. “I might just tie your arms so that you can’t push me off.”

She smiles. “Sorry. What’s number is that?”

“Five tonight.”  I curl into her. “Just sleep like we used to.”

“Alright.” Her arms take me, and she holds me to her, smiling. “Goodnight, Lizzy.”

“Sweet dreams, Lin.” I yawn.

-------

“Lizzy, wake up.” Lindsay yawns.

“What time is it?” I ask.

“Five.” She shoves me. “Wake up.”

“Too early.” I moan.

“You’re so lazy.”  She chuckles.

I flip her off.

“Good morning to you too.”

“The pool warmed up?” I yawn.

“Ice cold.”

“Perfect.” I smirk.

She raises a brow. “Whyyy?”

I pick her up and take her outside. Takes her a few moments to get my plan, but by then it’s too late. I chuck her into the pool, hearing her scream.

“Y-y-y-” She tries, glaring at me.

“Aw. Did I get you wet?” I smile.

“Y-you a-a-are so dead.” She attempts to grab me, and manages to grab my leg, dragging me in.

“Lin!” I scream before under. I splash frantically, kicking my legs. “I-I can’t swim!”

“Lizzy!” She holds me, keeping my head above the water, frowning. “Sorry.”

Moron!” I shove us underwater and we shoot back up to the surface. “You are slowly trying to kill me.”

“Am not.” She argues. “You’re trying to me hypothermia.”

“Only because you’re killing me in your sleep.” I argue back.

We glare for a moment, until Lindsay smiles and laughs. Her expression causes me to raise my brow.

“What?” I ask.

“Nothing.” She giggles. “I can’t keep a straight face with that cute face of yers.”

I blush. “Good morning, Lin.”

“You too, Lizzy.” She smiles.

-----------

“Where’s the Honey Comb?” Lindsay reaches over me, her stomach brushing my back she reaches into the bottom drawer.

Tingles eat their way up my spine. Lindsay loves to pick on me. Tease me. “I’m not sure. I think you ate the last of it.”

“No. We had a whole box yesterday. Pryors made sure we are fully stocked with our favorites.” Her hand grabs my waist and she scoots me over, my butt sliding against her thigh. “Maybe you ate it?”

“I hate Honey Comb. You know that.” My brows furrow.

“Oh yeah.” She chuckles. “So…why not ice cream for breakfast?”

“You read my mind.” I turn to open the fridge, but Lin beats me to it, and our hands touch. A spark shocks my hand away. “You can get it out.”

“What flavor you want?” She digs through the freezer.

“Uh.” I stare at her, her figure. Picking on me… “I don’t care.”

She smiles, and I have to look away. This is bad! No, Fox, stop staring at her. Keep focus. Yes. Focus on the mission.

“Alisa?” Lindsay asks, causing me to look at her in the eyes.

I regret it right when I do. “Yep?” I force a smile.

“What kinda flavor?”

“I told you I don’t care.”

“Cherry, chocolate, raspberry, mint, snickers…” She names each one.

“What kind do you like?” I bite my lip.

“Raspberry.” She smiles.

“Let’s have some of that then.”

“But you hate raspberries.” She raises a brow.

“Never said I was going to eat it.” I tease.

Shock takes her face when I pin her to the fridge. “Uh, Lizzy.”

I lean in and whisper. “Lin. Ki-” I look away. “Never mind.”

“No.” She interrupts. “Lizzy, what?”

“It doesn’t matter.” I turn around, and open a cabinet. Pull out a box. “Here’s your Honey Comb.”

“Lizzy.” She smiles. “How’d you know?”

“I hid it.” I smirk.

Silence eats at us as she pours a bowl of cereal and milk. My hands instinct fully grab it from her, and I unconsciously take her face.

“Alisa?” She whispers. “What’s up?”

I pull her into a kiss.

“No!” She shoves me away soon after. “We can’t repeat the past.”

“B-but, Lin.” I frown. “I-I.”

She sighs, and I try again.

“Alisa!” She slaps me.

I stare at her, stunned.

She grabs her keys and sighs. “I’m going out for breakfast.”

“No. Wait. Lin…” I gasp her wrist, reality slowly settling in. “I-I didn’t mean to.”

“Don’t apologize.” She stares at me. “Just give me a moment.”

“Take me with you. We can talk this out.” I plead.

She pinches the bridge of her nose. “Alright.”

-------

We settle down in Subway, both sharing a BLT. We’re both silent, munching on lettuce and bacon. I don’t know where to start.

“You remember our past life?” Lin speaks up.

“Which one?” I raise a brow.

“The one when I first met you.” She tucked a piece of blonde hair behind one ear.

“Before or after we were hung in the 1600s?” I speak around a bite.

“After.” She bows her head.

“Ah, yes. You were a general in the World War. You met me later on when you needed medical attention.” I rub at my face, lower my voice. “You were a man.”

“Do you believe my spirit’s still male?” She whispers.

“Why?” I close my eyes. Prepare for her answer.

She takes a deep breath. “Because we’ve married each life, until my avatar changed to a woman. And yet my feelings for you haven’t changed with it.”

I sigh. “You know why we were always paired right?”

“Destiny?” She guesses.

Silence draws in.

“No. Because our Avatars recognize each other. We’re the last two of our kind. And our ancestors are trying to test us by seeing if even this life will separate us.” I murmur.

“Where did the others go?” She wines.

“You know. Guns ended them before they could take another host.”

We take our sandwiches with us to the car, and don’t even bother to start it. Lindsay climbs onto my lap and buries her face in my neck.

“Never die on me.” She begs. “For if I lose you. I might as well be dead.”

“I won’t.” I hold her to me. “I promise.”
