Tired of Your Depression

Tired of Your Depression

A Poem by Butterflymom
"

Depressions mark on loved ones!

"

My frustration and anger grows

When you spiral down, down

Into your black abyss

Following you there

In utter despair

Extending my hand to bring you out

I land right there on top of you

Somehow, I find my way up, up

Out of that loathesome, lonely, dark nothingness

You stay there shrouded in pain

Warming to your misery like a cloak

Your emotional treachery, and black, dark moods

Making stains on those that care

Next time you go down that hole

I won't follow you there

I have suffered with depression for years and am very aware that is the epitome of selfishness. It isn't just the affect that it has on the person suffering but everyone around them. I'm glad to see a poem written from the perspective of a loved one. It is hard for everyone involved and I can understand the pain involved in helping them.

Mental illness is as catchy as the flu.
Get out and leave the work to the doctors.
You will have no life if you stay, as you already know.
Get far away after draining assets.
This is the advice I usually give.
Hugs,

You were right. I do like this one alot. It sums up exactly my relationship with my ex, which is who I wrote my poem about and who I will not interact with anymore. I look forward to reading more of your writings.

Oh how I understand! It's like you are held captive by the person's emotions. You may have sympathy and or empathy but after awhile you want the chains from around your neck to be lifted. I like the blunt and strength in your words; very unwavering.

This is beautiful. It is difficult to watch people who, as C.Boylan says, are selfish in their depression. There is no need to drag others down with you when you're unhappy. I love the lines:
"You stay there shrouded in pain
Warming to your misery like a cloak".
That's exactly what we do - we find comfort in the dark misery that for some of us has become a way of life.

Stunning job!!!

Wow, good job! Typically, poems would be in the POV of the depressed one, but yours was from another perspective. Kudos.

Again, great display of using rhyme sparingly.
A good message to people who are 'selfish' in their depression, expecting those around them to be a constant comfort and prop...but for those of us who keep away from people in order not to bring them down, it's an affirmation that we're useless and have a negative effect on the world.
Kind of sad.

Such a sad poem.. I'm usually a person that's always depressed. You could say that I dated a guy who didn't like it. He hit me.

Revelation, dawn of the morning........we finally get it!......but can we live it?
When one is co-dependant with another it is soooo difficult to break the pattern. I know...been there, done that so to say!
It causes anger, resentment, and downright "I don't want you" at times....until the next round.
Excellent thoughts in this!!
Thanks!
Sheila

Who does depression hurt? You got it and hit the nail right on the head. Being a co-dependent to someone who suffers from depression is horrifying and you caught that frustration perfectly here!
