Compassionate Healer

Compassionate Healer

A Poem by Butterflymom
"

Many "healers" have been wounded and find themselves in helping others..........

"

The holes in my soul from the stab wounds

And the punctures through my heart

Causing me to bleed from my emotions

That tore my world apart

 Shear unadulterated shame and hopelessness

Left me laying injured in despair

My soul is softly patched

And my heart is stitched together

Empathy and compassion now flows in veins once collapsed

Has transformed me into a compassionate healer

That no longer fears the night

I lead others through the darkness

And handle the thread so gently to heal their wounded souls

While bringing them to the light

I believe that as we reach out in compassion to help others, we take our own healing to a deeper level as well. I know it was so for me when I co-led one of the first survivors of incest group in this province. A lot of the women would say things to my psychologist friend like, "You haven't been there so how can you really understand?" And she admitted that her knowledge came from books not experience, but she was trying to understand. The fact that I learned so much more about it through experience, helped me to help them.

A good write of compassion. Abuse is a topic which has been hidden far too long. Thanks for sharing this.

There are some beautiful lines and turns of phrase in this. The second last line had a strong impact on me.It was just simply but nicely said.
