War's Cadence

War's Cadence

A Poem by Broken Wings
"

A dedication to Palestine and the loss of innocent lives taken away

"

A woman walked through the wreckage once called her home

Fragments of concrete sprawled and smashed from the drone

She waded through the heap of memories scattered, laid bare

And found hidden under rubble a little teddy bear

She clutched it to her chest as tears softly fell

Taking in the scent of something once known so well

Tears stung her pained eyes as she looked up the street

Once bustling now was bare, due to the Army’s relentless fleet

Tears flowed onto the silence as her broken heart poured

For she had lost everything she had once adored

Her mind consumed by the memories of the explosions

Her soul tormented by the images of all the bodies broken

Blood of the innocent soaked into the ground

Lives taken violently, bodies never found

Thousands were lost at the hands of the evil army

Media covered it up, instead of alarming

The public know not the horrors that are occurring there

Blood has been spilt now for over 50 years

How can the UN decide which people the land should belong?

Claiming to be right when all you do is wrong

Funds sent to them, the monsters to slay women and children

Raping a once beautiful land, leaving it barren

After WW2 the world vowed “never, ever again”

It is still happening now, the victim turned the fiend

Is the blood shed retribution for the suffering of generations past?

Have you forgotten the pain of the generation last?

You are doing the same now, causing genocide

Behind your partnerships and corporations you slyly hide

I feel agony and pain for the souls lost

Due to the racial ravaging’s of the holocaust

They will be turning over in their mass graves if they knew

All the pain and suffering caused because of you

This new generation forgetting what was said

Repeating these acts does NOT do justice for the dead

The Gaza Strip just like the Jewish Ghettos

Bombed apart and broken by the horror you bestow

Every tear, every loss of life you will have to pay

In the afterlife, the tormented will have their say

The woman held on tight to the teddy bear

Heart scorned with grief and a world unaware

Unjustified and uneven war has torn through the land

Leaving it's cruel mark burnt on every grain of sand

Broken, bent and battered remnants of lives torn apart

By the resounding cadence of war that stops the beating heart

Her baby rests in heaven with thousand’s more

Because of the bombs you scatter through this terrifying war

The woman does not blame every one of you

No hatred in her heart, although it’s severely bruised

You cannot fight hate with hate, as it is a disease

Only when it’s eradicated will the world be freed

She fights with compassion silently, for a brighter day

Where no more innocent lives are cruelly taken away.

I understand this poem. I write similar poems against war. I was a Soldier for 15 years. I saw the old cities in the Middle East destroyed and the million homeless. Thank you for sharing the powerful poem. I wish we spend 10% of the war budget on starvation and sickness. The world would be a better place.

Powerful indeed, it could be about any bloody conflict anywhere past or present !

The futility of war, is the expression you create and as is usually the case, all over a piece of land !

When will 'they' ever wise up ?

It sounds more like a commentary than a poem, but it's great nonetheless. Just clearing some facts: UN, not USA that decided that jews can take palestine. Other than that, love it! Great topic!
