Death Is A Gentleman

Death Is A Gentleman

A Poem by *~*Butterfly Kisses*~*
"

You may be a gentleman but I hate you, Death.

"

Hard to be soft,

Tough to be tender

When the bittersweetness of death

Comes knocking at my door.

His kindness attraction of whispers

Frozen temptations at my ear.

Filling my once joyous soul

With the blackness of his reputation.

I keep fighting, fists raging

As I swim through the tears

Of my existence in loss of family values

And friendships torn from greedy demonic hands.

His want for me to finally be by his side,

The strong yearning of death and destruction

Of all that I have become and know that I am

Yet he continues to be gentlemen through it all.

He understands my pain, the will to keep moving

Forward away from the black clouds that hang

Over me washing away all the glory of life

Poisoning my soul with acid rain.

He never goes against his regrets,

Watching and waiting for the chance I lose it all.

The slight temptation of thought to surrender

And be six feet beneath the ground, where I belong.

He waits for me with burning patience

Death, the kindness of all men that I have never met.

My swords forever drawn, a battle of a lifetime

With my last breath, I will one day be his.

Reminds me of one of Meg Cabot's books... Where 'Death' is a character that tries to peruse the protagonist... Took me to that book and I loved this write.. "With my last breath, I will one day be his." Great lines.

Delicately beautiful. Comparing death to a gentleman who is patient and perhaps careful in a way...just wonderfully penned. And in another way there is bold truth that blooms.
