To The One That Got Away

Have you ever looked up

At the midnight velvet sky

And witnessed the beauty

Lying within the darkness

That has arisen each night

Written in the stars far beyond

This planet and the moon.

 

A sad symphony of the lonely

Hidden in the shadows

A time to embrace the feeling

Before the sun feels the need to arise

And you must put on a mask

Just to make it through today.

 

The past romances of love,

Lost and soon to be forgotten.

Though they never seem to go quietly

Forever looming within your mind

Burning and yearning for that someone special

The one that got away...

 

I can't help but wonder

If you ever look at the same night sky

And feel the same emotions,

Think the same thoughts

Of the days when I was too stubborn

To tell you how I really felt in my heart.

Never be afraid to tell someone how you really feel, whether it be a love or a family member or even a friend. You never know when they might no longer be by your side and you'll regret it.

Yes I have.. this poem is going into one of my favourites! Such abstract beauty that cleverly elucidates the consequences of unrequited love..
