Not Over You

Not Over You

A Poem by *~*Butterfly Kisses*~*

The sun no longer shines

And it rains almost every day

As I lie awake in reminiscence

The time we've spent together.

Starry nights on California shores

With our toes firmly in the sand

Memories like a message in a bottle

Forever lost and drifting the sea.

Our sweet "I love yous" and kisses

Echo within the seashells on the beach

When our love once felt eternal

And it was written within the stars.

Those nights we've spent in the city

Walking the streets and tables set for two

Now only one sits to face the facts

My own lies discovering the truth.

Your love notes you've given me,

Stashed away inside a chest

I cannot bare to toss them away

Into the flames of burning loneliness.

Red roses you've left for me,

Wilted and dying, fading to black

In the bittersweet memories of romance

A void I hold dear in my heart.

If I saw you today on the streets,

I would say you're not on my mind

But the truth lies so deep within me,

I am still not over you.

Those sweet words and the gifts of love are what we need later in a life. Aftermath of a lost love leave us in pain till we recover and become content with the memory and move on. I like the story and the very good ending. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

This is so wonderfully written. I feel every word and understand the emotion that motivates it.
It makes me wonder what happened to the other person, I almost felt as if they'd died but i'm surely it could easily be about something else.
Either way, I loved this

It truly remins you that while love is beautuiful it comes with an ugly side. I don't have any loves to compare it to but i can compare the feeling of emptiness and loneliness with when i've lost people near and dear to my heart. You did a really great job and i'm so sorry it took me so long to read and review it!

Such a haunting poem and I know exactly what you mean my dear. I fell for my best friend and he ended up being a cheating @$$. Yet, I'm still hung up on the SOB. It doesn't seem fair and the memories, those flashbacks of the good times, as well as the memories of the break-up are the hardest to endure I think. Sometimes I hate having such a good memory and wish there was a button to press to fall out of love with someone, especially if that someone is so horribly undeserving of that love.

You have captured the raw emotion of having to face those things, those memories, those feelings without that person. How it tears at the threads of the soul, that yearning. The hard truth of that person no longer being in one's life. And how we convince ourselves that we're over that person, how we stand firm to everyone who asks "How are you holding up?" we reply with a "I'm fine, I'm doing good, I'm soooo over him. he was such a jerk." yet in the back of our minds we are wishing that they were there with their arms around us, apologizing, saying they're sorry for everything that was said and done.

Well penned my dear.

Some memories seem to haunt us forever, but time has a way of paving over these memories with new found happiness...just when you've almost given up hope. When you've left these memories far behind, they will lie on his chest and weight of such burden will keep him awake...many a night.

I really love this poem! Because I've been there too! I know the feeling. This made me cry little, it's so longing and full of LOVE (in every word).

Well done. I put it in my faves. :)

it nearly broke my heart this one, true story.. that heart shaken by sorrow goes out to you mate.. wish you find happiness in your love life above all else pal! getting over is something that each of us find negative-easy in our own several ways and take our own time to finally make that leap.. but the wounds will never heal sadly.. but remember my friend, this rise and fall in romantic episode(s) is a learning curve to mastering the art and becoming a person who will keep his/her partner that he/she eventually finds, the happiest, and forever thankful for having let you find him/her. besides, this piece of writing is lovely and captivates the reader from the very beginning, molding the person into the verses, melting into the sublime finale.. god bless you.. peace
