A bit of a personal write. Dedicated to my brother.

Soft whispers of your voice linger

In every crevice of this empty home.

Feeling your heart beating,

Though I sit here...alone.

 

Drowning my sorrows with every sip

Tennessee whiskey, strong and cold.

Memories of you fill the brim of my glass

As the fear of losing you creeps in the dark.

 

Guns and bombs blaze within my mind,

Cringing at the visions upon the television.

People running in the streets, terrified

Anger overcomes any sense of reality.

 

Praying daily for an end to violence,

Waiting for the day when war is no longer

An option of unjustified reasons why

No homes missing a loved one far away.

 

In my heart, I will remain strong.

But the thoughts and fear of you

Will never fade and I will pray for an end

Come home.

Author's Note

For those that don't know my brother is in Afghanistan on a "special mission" and just recently anti-american protests over some film that surfaced on the internet have made the war there difficult for any soldier to come home to their loved ones where they belong.

My thoughts and love go out to you and your brother, I can only begin to imagine how you are feeling, empty, helpless, scared. Try to stay positive spend five minutes a day seeing your brother coming home, he will be. I know the film my daughter was in Egypt, riots in Cairo,was so pleased to have her home safe and sound x Wonderful heartfelt poem sums it all up.

I am touched. Firstly I must say that it's really commendable on your part to take an effort to pen down your feelings even in the face of these difficult times. This is written straight from the heart and the poem froths in its effervescence. The thing I really like about this is the simplistic writing - you haven't heaved it with any unnecessary fancy phrases to make it sound different from what it actually is. This will not be the first war poem I am reading here, but your personal story and honest writing add another dimension to it. Well done.

So many are far away .. and we pray .. My brother is far past the age to serve now .. But still others I love are missing, somewhere far .. I know how it feels to miss someone .. And I know how sweet the reunion can be .. Be strong, hold good thoughts .. He will be home soon ..

I read a article yesterday. Downsizing in Afghanistan. I hope it is true. It is scary to have a love one in a war zone. I didn't realize the pain I caused by volunteering for any mission when I was in the Army. I hope your brother come home safe and sound. A lot of mail keep up the Soldier's spirit. They need to know they are needed at home. Thank you for sharing the thoughts.

I sure hope so, this year was supposed to be the end of his tour but stupidly (and that's just me speaking) he went back. I hope the downsizing is true, but unfortunately I take things our leaders say with a grain of salt. Thank you for your words and kind review.

War never makes sense to me... our leaders think it solves problems but then tell us killing is wrong... I feel for anyone fighting for our country, they go in doing the right thing then have to fight for things that don't exist.

War is so unnecessary, its doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that there are other ways to resolve a conflict. It aggravates me that our leaders and others of the world are in it just for the greed and money, and what ever else they feel like their people need.
