The Fallen

The Fallen

A Poem by Jasmyn Day

wave a white flag
and you are labeled a coward,
protecting what lives we have left
In a war that cannot be won
These soldiers are ants,
a garrison easily replaced and replenished
Against the many, the sacrifice of the few
is accepted
A fate that tarnishes
what our flag stands for,
replacing the red in our stripes
with blood
and calling it paint
Secrets and lies only kept
until the red turns to rust
A government of men,
how can they serve the people
if they are no longer the people
but the priviledged
